IM thinking of doing a plain white fondant round cake for a communion. I want to keep it simple, its for a boy and I feel it should be plain...

Im thinking of making a white chocolate cross to lay on top and them write God bless etc..next to it...

Has anyone attached choclate to a cake..should I use Royal Icing?

is this going to seem too simple...im thinking maybe pipe the bottom with a pale blue...

Should I do 2 tiers, with the cross on top...yes im confused!!! icon_sad.gif

you could use royal icing, or more chocolate, or butter cream to stick the chocolate on. id go with whatever i had handy!
i think the pale blue shoulds nice, you could use it to do the writing, and maybe you could decorate the cross with it, like a border, or simple blossoms on a corner.
as a two tiir cake, i think you would need more decoration, as to me that sonds like a lot of white surface, but it might look really simple like that too. depends what you are going for. and also how many you need to feed, two teirs could be a lot of cake.
but maybe smaller sizes would be nice, you could have the cross on top, pipe the blessing round the top/ side of the bottome tier.

ok well i ecided what im doing... the cake is for about 45 people

Im making a 12 inch round, 2 layers with a small cake cross on top. each individually covered in fondant...i will pipe light blue icing around the cross so it stands out, and the base of the round cake...put his name on the crosss and the stick 4-5 white chocolate blue crosses around the large roud cake (stuck to sides)

Im also going to make about24 cupcakes with a huge swirl of BC on top and stick a white cross in them too(blue)

How does this sound???

that sounds great to me icon_smile.gif youd have enough cake without the cupcakes, but then again, theres no such thing as too much cake!
sounds like it will turn out great, i like the idea of the cross being made of sponge.
