I've seen many pics of dog cakes that looks like it's made of buttercream. Was wondering if anyone can give me any instructions on how to do this or tell me where to find this information. Thanks

I have this link for step-by-step http://beruna7.rajce.idnes.cz/postup_vyroby_pejska/
The site is in Czech, but there are almost exclusively photos there. The cake is baked in rectangular pan (like a single layer sheet cake, the rough body is cut from it. There is some modeling with cake spackle (the cake crumbs mixed with buttercream). Stop on the step where she is covering it with fondant.
Let your cake rest for a while in fridge (an hour would be more than enough). Crumbcoat it. Pipe the fur with grass tip instead of covering with fondant.

Does this help you?

There's a tutorial on the lying down dog in the forums here.

Is that what you're looking for?
