I thought that they were going out of business? Is that what they were saying at the AZ cake and sugar art show or was it just advertising a sale? I'm probably wrong. Sorry.

I was there yesterday, in fact, and I didn't any kind of indication that they were going out of business. The items seemed to be priced almost exactly like JoAnn or Michael's. But they have a far greater selection of a lot of things not available at the other two.
A lady there said her husband called that store the Home Depot for women. So I now call it "Home Deco."

ABC is the only cake decorating supply store here. I've been there many, many times. They have everything and then some. Their staff is very knowledgeable and will help you with any questions. They've gotten newer products in the last year that you can't find anywhere else but online too.
They have every basic thing you'd ever need.

Ok thanks! I'm sorry for confusing that info. No, I have never been to ABC but I have heard about it.

Ok dumb question but do they offer coupons? Like, you can get 40 percent off coupons at virtually any time for Michaels or Joannes. Does ABC offer anything? It's been said their prices are reasonable, but reasonable + 40 percent off is even better! THANK YOU!

THAT is the name of the place I was thinking of. Christy's Cake. Thank you so much - I'm not crazy! lol.
cserwa- I've never thought about buying from a restaurant. If you plan on buying a bunch of pans at one time, cakedeco.com has nice, inexpensive ones and they only charge actual shipping costs, but they do have a $50 min. order. With a bunch of pan's you will probably meet it. Check craigslist, too. I see pans flying around there all the time

Hi cserwa,
You're going to LOVE ABC and the girls behind the counters theyre full of knowledge.
I live in the far NW of the Valley and will happily drive all the way to Indian School to get to that store. They have a lot of candy and fondant molds. A large selection of cake, candy, cookies, wedding, and birthday decorating books - the best Ive see anyways. And, the best thing is they keep a duplicate set at the counter, so you can view the book before you buy, and that really save $$ because you cant return them.
ABC carries pans (at least they did the last time I was there). I LOVE Magic Line pans. IMO they are the best pans ever, and the square pans will give you a sharper edge then Wilton or Fat Daddys.
Have fun shopping.

Hello Cserwa,
I agree with GlendaleAZ. ABC is the best place to get what ever you need for your cakes. I live in the far southeast valley and I always travel to ABC for my things.

You guys are the best! I've been wondering where all of the AZ bakers are!!! I'm in north peoria, and I'm heading to the store this weekend and am counting down the hours! I'm so excited!!! I think I'm going to look online for ML pans before I head there, just so I'll be able to compare their pricing with what I've seen online. I'm just going to bring my wish list and debit card and have at it...or maybe just a set limit of cash so I don't walk out with one of EVERYTHING...

On that note, since I have some AZ girls in here with me, do any of you buy supplies (pans, etc.) from restaurants, auctions, or any place like that? I'd like to buy a bunch of pans in the near future and am trying to find the best deal.
some of my favorite and oldest pans came from an old hotel that was closing in Yuma.....years ago now....got them for pennies on the dollar! Thing I liked best is that they even had the odd number pans...7" 11" 13"... they were super heavy steel pans...no name on them....just had a lot of 'stuff' that took some elbow grease to clean off!
Check the restaurant supply houses in their used areas for some super deals as well!

I'm not a cake decorator, but I do cookies! I live in Chandler and have visited ABC on numerous occasions for cookie supplies. They have a good variety of cookie cutters, sanding sugars, americolor gels, and bags. They also have a case at the counter that has a tremendous variety of piping tips - including odd sizes like a 00. I bought some meringue powder there just to try it out and ended up throwing it away. I didn't like the way my RI turned out - too many lumps. So I just stick with Wilton's meringue powder. My sister-in-law and I make the trip there every so often and come back with way more stuff than we had planned on buying...and with big smiles on our faces

Should I just google "restaurant supply houses"? I want to look into auctions or used equipment, but I don't know where to start!
Check the phone directory...maybe Craig's list in your area, watch the paper for auctions/yard sales...you never know what you can find till you start looking! Look up Google sites for auctions in your area....Finding treasures is half the fun...finding great buys is the other half!

Hi Pebbles13,
I just took a peek at you album and was amazed by the amount of deatil on your cookies, very nice work.
Tammy

I sold restaurant equip at one time in my life--and purchased a ton of deep dish pizza pans (heavy duty alum) for next to nothing. I also love the commercial 1/2 size bun pans for baking cookies. They're a nice heavy aluminum and only cost around $10.

ABC... my niece calls it the "Disneyland" of cake decorators.
