I originally posted this on the decorating forum, but think that I will have better luck here. Can anyone suggest a filling for funfetti cake? I will be doing a thin, white, vanilla BC under the fondant covering the cake for a 30th b-day. Her mom says to do whatever. Any help is appreciated!

Frosting, of course! Funfetti is all about classic birthday cake, so I see no need to go crazy and fill it with a gourmet type filling. Since you are only planning to put a "thin" layer of BC (for adherance?) under the fondant I would make a really stiff, nice fat dam of BC and fill the center with good ol' frosting, so that each piece has enough of the sweet stuff to go with the cake.

You know what I do, that my kids absolutely LOVE?? I take a vanilla BC, and fold those mini candy coated kisses, or mini M&M's into the mix. It matches the cake batter, and its a little extra color and suprise for the filling.

I was going to suggest mini M&Ms or lots of jimmies in the buttercream filling.

Thanks so much for all of the great ideas. I am going with vanilla frosting, sweet and simple. I am torting 2 10 inch rounds, so I think that I am going to go thin on the filling. Hope she likes it!

If you're going for a funfetti cake I would suggest the frosting that goes with it. It's classic, delicious and the soft little chips won't make your cake crunchy. The M&Ms sound good too but I'd worry about the colors running or people not liking the crunch they give. Just a thought!
