Help! How Do I Make A Flower Topper !

I've used rounded styrofoam before. A styrofoam ball cut in half works well. I use royal icing to attach gumpaste flowers to the styrofoam. Just make sure you use leaves or tulle to fill in the bare spots. I'd love to see a picture of the finished cake. Hope this works out for you.

Aaah!! thanks cdavis, that is a brilliant suggestion.
I am doing a wedding cake in 2 weeks time and was also wondering how I can get the flowers on top to look like a posy. Take it you would put the "cut-up ball" on a disc before putting it on top of the cake?? OR, am I just being "blonde" by asking such a stupid question.
Hey!! its early morning here, just woken up and the brain is not in full function right now.........

I would attach the styrofoam to a cake board so that you don't have little styrofoam pices come off onto the cake. I have also used the "boquet makers" that you can buy at Michaels or Hobby Lobby. They have a plastic handle on them (use the straight handled ones only) that you can push down into the cake. Then, after the wedding the bride can display the beautiful floral cake topper by either standing it in a vase, or laying in a curio cabinet.
Good Luck and let us know how it turns out.

thanks cdavis, will post a photo of the cake. The wedding is on the 25th of this month, trying to sort out the flowers, want to make them myself.
made a couple of test runs, but want to modify what I have done.
