That is such wonderful news! To find an abducted child alive after a few days is miracle enough, but to find one after four years! And to think, the same man took both of them?

Congratulations to the officials, for finding one and finally finding the other boy. Congratulations to the parents, who can some day have closure on these incidents, and wishes of celebration to all those who have prayed for their return.

thought I would clear this up.... the boy that was found with Ben was kidnapped 4 years ago .... he is 15 now, and Ben is 12.
what the news says is the boy that was kidnapped 4 years ago (since October 2002) he is on his way home, and Ben and his family have been reunited...... Ben was pushed into a white truck on Monday just as he got off the school bus.. the man who kidnapped both boys is a sex offender registered in Utah I believe is the state, but not registered in Missouri..... he was a manager of a Imo's pizza place in missouri.... they have gotten a million dollar bond on his head so I imagine he will be stuck in prison for a bit......thank goodness!

I'm so happy that this story has a happy ending! I could not imagine being the parents of these boys during this time-----WE all need to keep these families in our hearts though because the ordeal is not over yet. The psychological damage done has to be extreamly great (especially for Shawn since he's been gone for 4 years and may even sympathise with his captor now) I pray that they return to as much as a normal life as possible and as far as their captor goes...WELL, lets just say I can't post what I think of him or would do to him if he was with in my reach!

Today IS indeed a HAPPY DAY!

I was so excited when I heard the news on our 10 o'clock news! I can't believe they found them both! What a miracle! Our news stations here in Oklahoma City have been covering the story since the one boy went missing on Monday and I've been following it so I was elated for the families tonight when I heard the news. I'm happy for you guys there in Franklin County, too. One more sex offender off the streets! (My sister lives in a suburb of St. Louis so it made the story hit home!)

We have been following this story all week as well...I just about cried when the breaking news came on last evening! Our 2 sons, 8 and 10, came flying in the room as happy as I was! They had been praying for Ben all week in school, and then to learn another missing boy was found with him was just unbelievable!!!

The other amazing thing about this is that the sheriff (Toelke, I think) has been in the news before about 6 months ago when a newborn was kidnapped and the mother's throat cut by the intruder. An Amber Alert was issued and within a week or so, the newborn was found alive. (The mother's injuries were not life threatening)

In the last 6 months or so, this sheriff has helped find 3 missing children!!! Amazing!

I reiterate everyones same euphoric pleasure in them being found. I had goose bumps on my goose bumps and tears in my eyes. I believe in some way the good Lord sent Ben as an angel to find Shawn and allowed us to find them both... he works in mysterious ways. I hate to think what Shawn has been through hearing some of the later reports even this evening. Even young Ben will have his share to recoup from in 4/5 days... Another couple of miracles to follow I'm sure.

I have 4 kids and my oldest, now 6, almost 7 and my daughter just turned 5 are they're so sick of hearing me say over the last few days (between them being sick with the flu) that this is why mommy is so insistent that you not be outside alone, why you have to stay on the upper part of our driveway and why you don't loose site of us while out walking and so on and so on and so the list goes... They think I'm nuts I know and probably a bit over paranoid but DH thinks I'm just nuts! He thinks that I'm overprotective and it's OK to leave them outside for a bit... this includes our 2 (almost 3) year old... UGH!!! DH will come inside and leave them out there just playing to get this that or whatever for however long it takes. It drives me nuts and I go run outside with them. He just tells me I'm over paranoid and shakes his head. We live at a dead end street and people would have to turn around and all the other houses would see them and so on... That's not good enough for me. I want to watch them till they're in college or on their own,.. and then some... I guess that's what makes us MOM!

Thanks for letting me share. thumbs_up.gif

I just wanted to clarify the names....the subject of this thread has one of the names wrong. One of the boys is Shawn Hornbeck....not Hornsby as written.

I'm sure that in the excitement of things it was overlooked, but I wanted to make sure that people reading this knew the correct name. icon_smile.gif

And Paula...you are definitely NOT alone! My DH is the same way. He grew up in a rural area where in the summer, they left their house on their bikes in the morning and didn't return until the sun was going down...Their mom just told them to be home at dark!

I, on the other hand, grew up as the daughter of a state trooper who worked undercover for several years. I didn't find out until I was a young adult that someone in the penitentiary had a "hit" out on my dad! My parents were very cautious with us. It all made sense after awile!! icon_wink.gif

Stick to your guns, Paula! thumbs_up.gif You aren't alone! icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks mocakes! I don't let up at all. I think now I'm worse if anything. It can happen at any age, at any time,... and to think what those boys have been through,.. especially Shawn. Last night they said while he's grown to a boy of 15 he's still that of an 11 year old inside. It makes me sick to think about it and I hope they do more than keep that guy locked up, ha and they're worried about his safety now! DH also thought I was nuts last year when our oldest started school and I looked up everyone in his class to see where they lived and if they lived near or around or on the same street as any of the registered sex offenders. I was amazed that out of 73 that 9 were near sex offenders... and there were at least a dozen kids with non published addresses so I don't know about them. I just wanted to know so if a friendship was made I made sure the play date was at our house.

OK,.. enough for this morning... I've got to get going. I'll end by sending out thoughts and prayers for Ben and Shawn this morning. They'll need them as the days and weeks wear on. Thank you God once again for their safe return and stay by their side as these boys come face to face with what they have been through.

Wow, mocakes, that is SCARY!
I'm with you, too, Paula! I keep telling my kids (7 and 4), I don't care where we are, at Walmart or in the front yard, STAY WHERE I CAN SEE YOU. If they go out of my sight, they're in trouble. One good tip I have heard somewhere and have told my kids is if we ever get separated in the store or wherever, if they can't find a policeman to help, find a woman with children and ask for help. They roll their eyes at me all the time, but I have no problem at all being a nag about it. Better to be a nag and keep my kiddos safe!
(by this, I don't mean to imply in any way that the children who were taken weren't careful enough, we all know that all children are in danger, regardless of what they have been taught, it could happen to any of us. that's why i'm so paranoid.)

Paula...were you my twin separated at birth??? icon_confused.gif You sound just like me!!

There is an awesome website at www.familywatchdog.us and you can put in an address and it will show you where registered sex offenders live and color code them by the offense. I did this for all my sisters addresses so if my kids stayed with them, I knew what kind of people were living around the area. Good thinking to check on classmates neighborhoods! thumbs_up.gif

You can never be too cautious. (My 8 and 10 year old still have to come into the ladies room with me if we are at the mall or at a restaurant or something. Let me just say, I LOVE the family bathrooms....I wish they would have more of those around!)

I hear you guys... I've recently found out that there's a sex offender living on the same street as DD's elementary school. AND there's another sex offender on the same street as another school in town (the one she will go to next year.) I'm all for civil rights and everything, but IMO, these people have forfeited their right to live that close to schools. My children's right to be safe is priority.
