Amuse Me!! Favorite Fall Flavor Combos (Recipes?)
Decorating By luvscakes Updated 7 Sep 2009 , 1:57pm by bobwonderbuns

HI!
I had a major surgery 3 a little over 3 weeks ago- not caking, no walking, no nothing for 3 weeks-
now I have complications that are keeping me down even longer! (Not easy with 4 small kiddos!) It may be months!
Anyway, I am super bored and loving watching trees change from my window so I was wondering if ya'll might amuse me and give me some of your favorite fall flavor combination. (If you include a recipe that's even better!) I'm not even allowed to stand up to cook or bake or anything but I might be able to in my imagination

FIRST I'm sending (((HUGS))) and get well wishes to your speedy recovery!!!
I really like a chunky apple cake with caramel icing.
(sorry no recipe, I just throw it in the bowl.)
FEEL BETTER SOON!!!!

I may be weird but I don't change cake flavors due to the season. I like what I like and that's what I eat, no matter what time of year. It's not that I dont' like anything new ... it's that I'm 50 years old and I've spent my life trying other stuff and I've narrowed it down to what I like.
white cake.....always.
red raspberry or chocolate fudge filling.
chocolate icing or my white BC.

I wish you a healthy recovery ! I love fall its one of my favorite months.
But I like it all. the apple and cinnamon and caramel.
I love to burn all of those candles right now to . I love the pumpkin pies, a nice warm slice with a scoop of cold vanilla ice cream on top.

Prayers for a speedy and complete healing. Hope you have lots of help w/those kiddos.
I never changed flavors either but the good ideas have all been mentioned.
Pumpkin spice cake w/bavarian fill; b'cream iced.
Apple cinnamon. Spice w/apple (pie) filling.

Hi again.. on the very long cupcake thread and the cupcake club thread we have been talking about all the different flavors of Hersheys candy kisses that are out now they have some great fall flavors to ! Pumpkin spice /candy corn an tons of others choc truffle/ dark choc raspberry Oh and caramel apple. And several more. they are great on top of cupcakes or added to the batter for a center suprise! If you collect recipes these are both great threads to do that. Also the Christmas cookie exchange 2 thread AND the new candy thread ! Hope your having a good day today !!

Thanks guys!
All these sound so yummy- yummy!!
I have never tried any apple/caramel cake- I have lots of time to come up with one though so I'll be hunting!
Indebi- I do know what you mean. I also have my flavors narrowed down to what makes someone take a bite and say "YUMMMMM- I've never had anything like this before!!" but since I love fall I thought I'd maybe try to throw in a new creation or two- assuming I get better before fall is gone
fiddlesticks- thanks for the info on those threads. I'll be checking them out now!! They sound like they have some great ideas!!

I just made a spice cake with a maple SMBC and LOVED it. Very fall and fun. Going to play with that combination more.

And Luvscake, I do hope you're feeling better. Its so hard to stay down and not do the things you love, like caking, playing with your kids, etc. I'm stubborn and I push it too early too and then it takes longer to heal
Like a 4 tier wedding cake 6 days after gall bladder removal and playing in a softball tournament exactly 2 weeks after the surgery ....what, the doctor said I couldn't play for 2 weeks... 6 weeks of not picking up your kids??....not so easy to do.

I too wish you a speedy recovery. Here is one of my all time favorites. You can use 1 cup of leftover oatmeal instead of the water and oatmeal in the recipe. I will warn all that this is a heavy cake and although it has a frosting my family eats it before I can get the frosting on. Here's my first contribution to my new CC family. Hope you all enjoy.
Apple Oatmeal Spice Cake
1 1/4 Cup boiling water
1 Cup quick cooking oatmeal
1 Cup margarine melted
Stir together and cool.
Mix 1 Cup white sugar and 1 Cup brown sugar in a bowl and mix well with the oatmeal mixture. Add two eggs and mix well.
Sift together 1 1/3 cups flour, 1 tsp. soda, 1 tsp. cinnamon, 1/2 tsp nutmeg, 1/2 tsp salt and 1/4 tsp cloves and 1/4 tsp ginger. Add oatmeal mixture and mix well. Add 1 or two cups of diced or shredded apples. Pour into an ugngreased 9 X 13 pan and bake at 350 for 35 min (or until the middle looks done). You know all ovens are not the same!
Blessings! Debra

Ok, I can't believe I'm saying this, but that apple-oatmeal thing sounds pretty interesting!
I think I'm not a fan of "fall" flavors because they are too full of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger ..... that flavor family .. and that's why it's funny this sounds good! In spite of having all 4 in the recipe! When I give this one a try, hubby won't believe it!

luvscakes....... get that rest you need and may you soon be up and about again.
I love changing everything with the seasons. Our seasons in California don't really change that much, we go from hot...to....cloudy drizzly for 3 months, then back to hot. I spent the first 50 years of my life in the Midwest , Missouri and Iowa. I developed the use of the seasons there and continue it. I love using what is in season...fresh.
Cakes in the fall, yummm, yes, Fresh apple cake with caramel icing (cooked, not powdered sugar), German chocolate cake with German chocolate icing (both scratch of course), Hickory Nut cake with Seafoam frosting, carrot cake with Cream Cheese frosting.
.....and beyond cake, there is, apple, pumpkin and pecan pie, walnut or pecan tarts, apple dumplings.
.....and home made soups simmering all day served with hot homemade breads a pot of beans boiled with fresh port hocks, served with butter drenched corn bread.
Pull on that sweater, start a fire in the fireplace and get ready to face winter.

BCJean, I love sweater-n-soup weather!
We are THE house in the neighborhood on Halloween. My kids and grandkids come over and I have a big pot of my chili simmering on the stove. We kinda munch on it all night long, in between Hershey Bars and Sweet Tarts!
BTW all, I'm in a chili cookoff this next Sunday (28th). Wish me luck!!! WHen my son got home from Iraq, there were only 3 things he wanted: Mom's chicken-n-dumplins; Mom's beef-n-noodles; Mom's chili!

Hello,
Hope you have a speedy recovery. Well it's not fall here but it is spring(31 degrees celcius) and going into summer fast. I'm a bit like Indy. What I like is what I like. You do see more pav's and fresh cream sponges around summer and in winter you see more sticky date pudding and self sauce pudding.
Just give me a pm if you want to chat more if your too bored.
Cheers for now Leigh

I love fall & all the scents/flavors that go along w/ it.
My all time favorite is a pumpkin roll or pumpkin cheesecake. OMG
But Pumpkin cake w/ cream cheese frosting is so lovely.
I like spice cake w/ caramelized apples & whipped cream (the REAL stuff). I may have to try it in a layer cake w/ Bettercreme one day to see how it turns out.
I too am ready for the cool weather (we'll probably have a night or two here & there, but not cool enough for another month or so).
If you're wanting some fall scents to fill your house my recommendation is some good candles. My new favorite are the Cinnabon candles at Walmart. But be warned, they put you in a baking mood.
My prayers are with you!
I can post the pumpkin roll & cheesecake recipe if you want (it's midnight, sitting in the dark about to go to bed). Let me know

BCJean..You just made me hungry !

..Good luck debi I hope you win ! Where is it and whats the prize??
Lawrence ... the ball diamonds/park on Franklin Road near 56th street. http://www.myburdford.com/Chili%20Cook%20Off.htm I'm in it for the free advertising and publicity, but the $1000 free gas card is a nice incentive!

Thanks which Category are you in ??
Yes the $1000 free gas card, that would be well worth it !

My favorite "fall" flavor would have to be Butter Pecan cake. The filling is maple cream cheese spread with a thin layer of chopped praline pecans. I did it for a wedding and when I tried it - oh boy. It's good!
For smells in the house I have several. Yankee Candle Buttercream is one, Vanilla Cupcake is another. Then there are all the good ones that just came out at Bath & Body Works. Creamy Nutmeg is really good, so is any of their Caramel ones, or the Pumpkin ones - they have two or three different ones and I got ALL of them, haha. I hate it when they have sales! Plus I had a coupon for a free ($9.50) candle, woohoo!

Could we please have the recipe for the Butter Pecan cake and the filling? That just sounds too good. Here in Alaska soup and bread is a staple all winter. We do have a Fall but it is so short (although beautiful) and almost over as I write. Oh...and ...good luck on the contest Debi...
Blessings, Debra

I have a German Apple Cake with brown sugar glaze that is amazing....pumpkin cake with cream cheese filling is good too. I brought that to a bridal show/competition in March, and while I didn't win, most of the brides were coming to my table saying it was the best cake in the house and telling their friends to come get a piece. Made me feel good anyway, even though I didn't win!
I got an Orchard Pear Yankee Candle that is great for this time of year, and next I'm going to burn my "Harvest" Yankee Candle. Mmmm!

I love fall & all the scents/flavors that go along w/ it.

Kitagrl... are you posting the recipes ??? Please !!

The cake is similar to this one:
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/German-Apple-Cake-I/Detail.aspx
The glaze is similar to this:http://www.recipesource.com/desserts/frosting/01/rec0119.html
(Sorry, I didn't go dig out mine LOL but I remember the ingredients are very similar if not the same as the above...plus I always add extra vanilla and cinnamon!!!!)
Also I really don't want to share my pumpkin cake recipe publicly, BUT you can probably find it or one similar...I find my best recipes online, just look for ones that have over 100 raving reviews on the major recipe websites.

Kitagrl.. No problem I understand. But I cant believe I just saved that German Apple Cake recipe the other day !
Well its good to know its a good one. Thanks so much !
