Let's Discuss Creative Ways To Package Cupcakes

Now that we have all these terrific recipes and tips, let's share some creative ways to package these things. There is a girl on Flickr that uses clear souffle cups with domed covers to display single cupcakes. They are so cute done up that way, but I can only find a 3" tall one and that would be ok for flatter cupcakes but not for the domed ones with lots of flowers and decorations. Maybe some of you would have a source for these as they are really cute.
Another thing I found was clear or soft colored chinese rice takeout boxes. Some have a wire handle and some have a flatter rounded plastic handle. You can tie a cute ribbon around them and it's a nice way to sell individual cupcakes.
I found a clear box with a flat cover at a local deli that you can put 2 cupcakes side by side in. I put a pretty piece of tissue or a small paper doiley in the bottom before adding the cupcakes.
Hope we get as many ideas for packaging as we did for the cupcakes.
I just tried a Margarita cupcake that was terrific.

lilybird..Another great thread idea !colored chinese rice takeout boxes.. They have these at my Michaels and they are a great idea I have used them for several things ! And yes a lot of the problem is the tall pretty tops on the cuppys! Thanks lilybird,, I will be so glad when you can post your Pictures !

I have used the clear, squatty solo cups--a cupcake fits just perfectly in one, then turn one upside down for the top. For some taller, jumbo cupcakes I made, we used clear plastic drinking glasses upside down on top. Tape in 2 or 3 places, or maybe use some of the little clear circle label sticker thingies. I have looked and looked for better packaging and haven't found anything I like.

They could be "dressed up" any way you'd like!

I think that a clear solo brand sundae cup with clear domed lid would work great for singles. I want to try a 4 in deep shirt box style box for larger orders (the lid is 1in deep) with the cardboard cupcake holder insert, tied with a ribbon.

With the clear boxes, I like to fill the bottom with either colored shredded paper or small candy (like M&Ms), then set a cupcake in the middle. They are so cute tied with a pretty ribbon!



nattyk, I don't really find the extra cost to be a problem. Most of the people I've encountered who want elaborately decorated and packaged cupcakes are willing to pay for them.
kimsmom, I've never had a problem getting the cupcakes in and out of the boxes I use. Now whether or not my customers do...

I personally like how one of them, www.thinkgarnish.com, doesn't require a minimum order so I don't have to store tons of containers in my garage (much to my husband's dismay!). You are all a talented bunch and thanks for sharing your pictures...my inspiration! Have a question and not sure if it belongs here but does anyone know how to add fruit purees to a cupcake batter? What ingredient, if any, should I remove if wanting to replace with the puree?

You will get more answers if you start another thread... what kind of fruit are you adding? I would replace part of the water/milk with the fruit puree... Unless you want a marbled look... then I would mix as usual, and reserve a small amount of batter to mix the puree with. Next just drizzle over top of your cake batter and run a knife through... Sorry if I didn't answer your questions... if not start a new thread



The snow cone cups are a GREAT way yo do the single serve cuppie thing at say a festival or a fair or farmers market. Hmmm... ;>]

mom42ws, are you putting anything else in the box with the cupcake? I've found that filling in the "dead" space with other materials keeps the cupcake more stable.
Just a thought.


I haven't tried to package the individual ones yet but have got a box from Walmart in cake deco department that will hold about 6 cupcakes with the see through top that works great. You can't find them all the time though so I try to keep a look out for them.

thinkgarnish.com has great ideas, but i think they are a little overpriced.
i am looking for away to deliver cupcake bouquets. they are so top heavy. I always end up having to ask someone to help me. Last time I delivered them my father in law was holding them and dropped an entire bouquet. i was ready to cry.

chefperl - have you seen the thread about transporting cc bouquets, it was a couple of months ago.
using a cake box, remove the lid, cut a circle in the lid the dimension of you pot about 3/4 the way up your pot and setting inside the cake box?

Has anyone tried the sundae cups? (like the size of a small sundae from Dairy Queen) I thought they would be the right size (the lid wouldn't squish the icing), and you could tie a ribbon around the base?

They have cupcake box inserts that hold your cupcakes in place so no shifting will occur. They even have sizes available for mini cupcakes and extra large cupcakes.
Unfortunately, you have to order in cases of a 100. But their prices seem reasonable and they ship everywhere (with free shipping in the U.S. yay!)
