Diy "ghetto Fabulous" Cupcake Courier

I made my own cupcake courier because i can't afford the plastic ones. You guys can try this if you wish to. it's very easy and fast.

i bought 14" x 20" cake boxes and boards. then i got small plastic cups. these plastic cups are kinda like your party nut cups but made of plastic. you can probably use the nut cups but i think they're expensive. all in all my cost was about $4 to $5.
then i lined up the cups on the board, making sure there's enough space around each one and then started gluing them to the board. i was able to glue 24 cups in each board.
the cupcakes fit perfectly and they don't budge. and that's my ghetto fabulous cupcake courier
so here are the pics.
this is the plastic cup i was talking about. it's 3.5 oz exactly like the party nut cups!
it was a little too tall so i had to cut off a little bit. this way i can easily grab the cupcake.
all i did was glue it to the cake board, spacing them carefully (i did not have the time nor patience to draw a "grid" to make sure they're evenly spaced. as rachael ray would say I eyeballed it LOL). As you can see the cupcakes look so cute and well-behaved sitting on their cups.
another pic just for the heck of it. and that's how i made my ghetto fabulous cupcake courier* As you can tell it's just a way to transport cupcakes, it's definitely not for packaging. but i'm actually thinking up ways to make it work for packaging too. i'll keep you guys updated

illini89 that's the same reason i "made" this. shipping is too expensive. and i'll use it just to deliver cupcakes so i can still have it back.
That is genius!! Now why couldn't I think of that? Funny I have all of the supplies already.

with that size of box i was able to put 24 cups in. am planning to buy a smaller box so i can put one dozen cupcakes in them and maybe use it for packaging too. am gonna try to "pretty" it up.

make sure you snip the top part of the cups so that you'd have room to grab the cupcakes. the ones i got had ridges and i just cut across them so i didn't need to measure.
This is a great idea! I got a cupcake courier at Bed,Bath, and Beyond (only to find them at Target cheaper a few months later) and love it but the downside is I have to get it back after transporting cupcakes places! I still haven't gotten one tier of it back from my last batch (but that I have to blame on my boyfriend since he hasn't returned them yet 
). This would be a great idea for cupcake deliveries!

i used plastic cups. i don't know if it's available in that size where you're from (they're 3.5 oz) but you can use the nut cups i guess, although that might be pricey. i got 50 pcs of the plastic cup for less than $2. my cost for one GFCC( ghetto fab cupcake courier LOL) was roughly $4 to $6 i think, maybe even less.
This is great! I got one from Target for a wedding gift about a year ago and it broke! This is perfect.

This has been an all consuming worry for me for ages. I had the water guy at work save some flats for me to try to do something with, and that was 2 weeks ago - still bone dry in the idea well.
I have packaging for sales, but this will SO be perfect for deliveries alone! I feel a tryout batch of cupcakes for my daughter's class coming up....! hehe
i might also make another version for packaging but it could get expensive. unless i figure out a way to make my own cupcake inserts out of cardboard... which i probably will when i'm bored enough LOL
I had been thinking of using my husband's circle drill bit to make holes in the bottom of the cardboard flats/trays. Then the cakes would sit in the circles, and be lifted up and held by the tray when delivered. I would set the cardboard tray inside a lidded plastic box, or even a paper box as you did, for safe & hygienic transport. My fear was that the cakes wouldn't be held in place unless the tray was lifted out. Maybe you can use a version of that idea, then let me know!
yeah that's what i was thinking too but use a cutter because i don't really have a drill LOL but i'm too lazy to actually measure how big each circle is supposed to be. also i wanna duplicate the cupcake inserts with the two slits on each side so you can grab the cupcake with your fingers easily. but that might make the hole too big and the cupcake might slide and move. so yeah, definitely in the brainstorm stage.
my next ghetto fabulous project would be a cupcake stand.

heehee. did you see the patent pending? hahaha. my bf loves to use the phrase ghetto fabulous and i think that's really what this cupcake courier is: ghetto fabulous. i LOVE that phrase for some reason because it's so me. LOL
OMG! Fantastic idea!!! I have a carrier but sometimes I cant use it cause my icing is too high and gets smooshed, well you just solved all my problems! Thank you so much for posting this! Im sure it will catch on fast and you will see it being used everywhere!
