For her birthday, my friend really wants a Ken doll cake. The same thing has a cake with a Barbie in the middle, but with a Ken doll instead. (She also wants the cake to be somehow cowboy/western themed). I know how you'd make a Barbie cake with the special mold and buying the doll with the stake in the middle.

Any ideas on how to do this with a Ken doll? I don't think you can buy a male doll intended for cakes (or can you?) Should I buy a doll and just stick his legs in? Remove his legs?

Thanks for any ideas or photos or suggestions.

Does she want just a "doll" cake or can you make a background, say with a horse or hills, barn, sagebrush, etc???

I had to hack off Barbies legs for my daughters birthday cake with hedge clippers! You could probly hack off Kens' legs and make it look like he's popping out of a box in a cowboy outfit for her birthday or is that too tacky?

She definitely wants a doll cake. I'm also allowed (but not required) to make an additional sheet cake with anything I want.

I'm so glad to hear that hacking off Barbie's legs worked for you! Did you just stick her torso into the cake?

Please don't hack off anyone's legs! If the doll is too tall, just make the cake taller by adding another layer. Wrap the bottom half of the doll in plastic wrap (Saran) before inserting. Also, be sure to carve some cake out of the hole where you'll be inserting the doll so the cake doesn't crack.

I'm intrigued... how are you going to decorate the cake?

you can stick him into the wonder mold, and add height to the cake by baking the same sized cake for under a nice little round.

then..you can "PIPE" Ken's legs in a pair of chaps, making him bowlegged for that authentic cowboy look and do the boots facing away from each other..lol...the sheet cake...how about if you decorate that like a horse?

If you pipe the legs on, if you use the wonder mold, you could make the mold look like it is a big pile of hay that he is sitting on.

Sounds like a neat idea, can't wait to see it.

You ladies are brilliant! I'm so glad I can just use a regular dol... And another round underneath is a great idea.

I'm not sure yet how to decorate the cake. I LOVE the chaps idea. But, my friend really wants Ken to be in a dress (I don't understand the request, I'm just indulging it). Here's a link to the cake she saw that inspired her (it's a Ken doll in a rainbow dress -- it's labeled on the website that it's adult content, but in my opinion it isn't -- fair warning!). http://www.thecakegallerysf.com/x1ratedcakes1gay/item.nhtml?profile=x1ratedcakes1gay&UID=111

I somehow want the dress to be western. I might just put a cowboy hat on him and call him done. Any ideas are appreciated, of course.

that picture is taken from a bakery in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida..I know because I've used it...the bakery is called STORKS bakery and they don't do naughty cakes and asked if they could refer their "naughty" cakes to me, I agreed and have used that image on my Miami Herald Article! lol

I hope the photo isn't stolen... It's from the bakery in San Francisco that inspired my friend.

Do you have any tips to make this cake happen? I'd really appreciate your expertise.

Like I said, it wasn't originally mine it's from Stork's bakery in Ft. Lauderdale..lol

the wonder mold is placed on top of a round cake to give it's height, and it's covered with the stars, nothing special.

Another idea is to pipe Ken's legs and boots, and decorate the mound as if he is "siiting" on a hill of grass. I've seen something like this w/ the barbie as a mermaid, sitting on an ocean rock w/ fish and seweed, etc.

Also, legs can be popped off, then popped back on afterward. Works with most of those type of dolls. Bratz you pop the feet off, works even better as they are meant to pop off.

Just to let you know that although that particular cake you two linked to is not a "naughty" cake....the ones after it most definately are and you should really watch linking to sites like that unless you are in the naughty area....there are kids on here. Thanks!

the site clearly states its an ADULT site.

and what would unsupervised kids be doing on a computer anyways!??

Like I always say...people have the power, you have access to a delele button on your computer, a mute button on your radio and an OFF button on the TV.

Unfortunately a lot of parents do not supervise nor do they monitor their children's acess to these electronic mediums.

No one posted anything to be perverted or nasty, unfortunately, if people are curious and decide to take a "gander" through the site...well...it's on them.

I'm sorry that you were offended by the sites we posted...maybe one of the moderators can remove them.

And yes...that site is an ADULT site...but this one isn't....so isn't it possible that parents let their children on this site to read about cakes???? and that a child could stumble upon that site before the parent has a chance to respond?

and here's a few more icon_rolleyes.gificon_rolleyes.gificon_rolleyes.gif

I'm really sorry -- there are definitely adult cakes on that site. I was thinking I was linking only that page, which is totally benign, and I even posted a note about it. I thought about posting hte image instead, but decided not to, because I thought it could possibly offend someone.

If anyone can delete the link for me, I'd understand and even appreciate it. I definitely did not mean to cause any issues with my innocent question.

No child should be on the computer unsupervised no MATTER HOW benign you may think a site may be...

after all this IS still the internet...the WORLD WIDE WEB is a scary place...

I don't care WHAT my kids tell me about how safe a site is, I wan't to know WHERE they go, what they watch and what they listen to..

that's called PROACTIVE PARENTING!!!!!!!

I can navigate myself pretty well around the web--It took me a good five minutes to go through the thread and finally get to much talked about naughty cakes. If it were never brought up I would have never thought to click on the next photo button.
I don't think my six year old would be navigating the forums and what she does go to is closely monitored.
If you have a hotmail account you can be almost possitive that you will get something adult in content. As also my Yahoo now because I opened something that was an oops. Now I get daily emails on viagra.
So back to the cake---I had to giggle!

Milklady: please don't apologize....it really wasn't that big of a deal. I was just thinking that since this is a family site that maybe a link to that website would be read by the wrong person. And you didn't cause issues at all icon_wink.gif

And yes RB, i understand children shouldn't be on unsupervised...mine sure arent,....but there are alot that are....in fact we have a few teens on here that i'm sure aren't being watched over. Lets not make this into a big deal...i wasn't rude in my original post...just stating that i thought the link belonged somewhere else thumbs_up.gif
