i'm trying to get all my teacher and bus driver gifts ready for later this week and had an idea that I'm not sure will work or not. I found some really cute coffee cups at the dollar store this weekend and thought I could bake cake in them and top with icing to look like whip cream and serve with a chocolate covered spoon.
has anyone had any experience with baking in coffee cups/mugs? can i just bake them like a cupcake but keep an eye on them while baking to make sure the cups don't crack or break?
i also made cakeballs for the first time this weekend and WOW are they good. I made my first batch Saturday, only made about 3 dozen. a few friends stopped by to play cards that night and Sunday morning I only had 3 left LOL i only ate 1 and my husband had 2, everyone else LOVED them and i've now had 3 orders for them for the holiday also, one of the couples that came over, i'm doing their wedding cake in April and she now wants some cake balls set on the tables for everyone to enjoy while waiting for dinner.
Thanks
Amy

I don't know if you can bake the cakes in the oven but I have baked them in the microwave. I did that last year for the teachers and they loved it. You need to use large microwave-safe ceramic coffee mugs (1 1/2 cups or larger). Use cake mix of choice, pour in 8 mugs and bake for 2 minutes on high power.

definitely can microwave them but you can BAKE a terra cotta pot... i have sent out many "cake in a cup". very cute.....
it's also great to bring people in the hospital, or nursing homes or whatever...

I have baked in coffee mugs before. Just make sure that the mugs says it is oven safe and you should be good to go.
