Hello everyone. I was just wondering. Does anyone know if there is anyone locally that you are aware of that has an edible printer for images. Do you know if Kinkos or office depot can provide with that service?? I do not use them that much so I do not want to purchase a 500hundred dollar machine if I will only use it once a month. If someone knows it would really help. Thanks so much for looking.

Sincerely,
Monique

Try your local grocery stores or Walmart or any bakery that that puts images on cakes. The office supply stores will not have edible sheets or inks. Just be aware that some bakeries will not print images for you. I know that a bunch in my area will not--you have to buy the cake to go with it. icon_sad.gif

But as an FYI, my startup costs were only around $200ish. I completely searched until I found the printer I wanted for VERY cheap and then the cost of the paper and inks combined actually cost more than the printer itself. And I really only use my printer about once or twice a month and I love the convenience of having my own. Just a thought...

My local cake supply store does them (not very well, which is why I decided to get my own).

My start-up costs were more like $160 instead of $200. I know that's not a huge difference, but you might do even better. Go for one of the printers that uses just two cartridges. They cost just $30 a set. There's enough ink in them to do more than a full package of icing sheets. The sheets cost around $25.

I use the Canon ip1500 printer. I got mine on Amazon for something like $110. You might do better if you have more patience than I and keep your eye on eBay.

Of course, you could get your printer now...and get supplies later....like, maybe, tax refund time. icon_smile.gif

I use mine constantly. Not just for the primary design. I make plaques and signs. I make little embellishments for the sides of the cake. I write horribly, so I make many of the messages out of edible images and just cut around them and place them on the icing instead of using a full sheet. Sooooo much prettier than my scrawl!

I didn't envision all the things I would do with mine when I bought it. Chances are, you'll use one more than you'd imagine, too.

And, there's nothing like being in control of your image. A lot of the ones I see coming out of bakeries are obviously done by someone who took no pains with color balance, intensity, etc.

My edible image system is one of the best investments I've made in a long time!
