I got all excited because I read in a post that you can color almond bark with Wilton paste (unlike the chocolate melts). I thought, great! I can do chocolate transfers and dip my cake balls too. And the stuff is so inexpensive. I bought the almond bark, then read in another post that it tastes waxy and artificial......eeeeeeek.
Obviously, we all want our products to taste yummy. What is your opinion?

Hi Tug,
It tastes just ok to me. Like the iced animal crackers you can buy at the grocery store. Not, great..just ok. Good for when you're craving something sweet! I used them to dip cakeballs once..and they just weren't as good as white chooclate. I don't like the taste of the candy melts either, tho..but white chocolate is so expensive.
I'm sure that didn't help much icon_lol.gif

It's what's used to cover pretzels for the holidays. We love it! Don't compare to white chocolate, not the same. The vanilla is good, don't care for the chocolate flavored. I'd suggest trying it yourself. $2 isn't a big expense, and it's actually good, just don't expect white chocolate. I don't eat it plain, but dip lots of things in it.

If they are to sell, you could offer regular and premium dipped cake balls...

I think it is ok, too. BUT, I used it to dip pretel sticks to give for Christmas presents and I got rave reviews. I dipped the large pretzel sticks and then sprinkled crushed candy canes, crushed peanuts, crushed cashews, Andes chips, or Red and Green White chocolate chips on them before they hardened. They were a HUGE hit and very festive.

I use it all the time to dip my pretzels in as well. Absolutely love it for that. Especially the vanilla almond bark. I also use it to dip chocolate chip cookies and oreos in. Now to dip anything else like cake balls I will use the vanilla but not the chocolate almond bark. The chocolate doesn't taste that great on a cake ball. When I dip cake balls in chocolate I use the candy melts. It tastes a lot better that way.

Do you add crisco to it like you do chocolate chips to make it easier to dip cake balls?

When I have dipped my pretzels. I use the chocolate bark mixed with milk choc chips. Tastes better. It sets alittle softer than the bark alone. I also do a peanut cluster with the almond mixture also. But I give these to friends everyyear and they love them. They can't wait till the next year icon_lol.gif

Only if I overheat it and it gets thick. I usually just melt the almond bark by itself. You could add chocolate chips for added flavor if you wanted to.

I add about 2T crisco to a pkg of bark to thin it. However, we never did before I learned it here and it was fine - thicker but fine. I prefer thinner coatings, and they dip smoother without all the thick drips and runs adding the crisco.

How do you color it? I use it to make peanut butter snowballs. I didn't think you could add liquid.

It's not really chocolate, so the gel colors should work. If it thickens up too much, add a bit of crisco. If you're worried, put a bit in a small bowl and color it there to make sure it works for you.

Sorry...I do NOT like almond bark on cake balls!!! thumbsdown.gif I tried it and it is so thick and hard. Next time I tried white chocolate chips with crisco...much, much better!! thumbs_up.gif

Almond bark might be okay on pretzels because you are already dealing with a crunchy texture....but cake balls are so soft inside that the coating of almond bark is way too hard.

Good luck!
