For my rum cake, I add 1/2 cup each: water, oil and rum. Then add 1 box pudding mix and 4 eggs.

AMAZING! And just WAIT 'til you boil up the syrup. My all time favorite cake. Rum cake! icon_biggrin.gif

Have never made rum cake, but I made a bourbon cake last week...I subbed 3/4 of the water called for with bourbon and the other 1/4 water. (For instance, my particular recipe called for one cup of water, I used 3/4 cup of bourbon and 1/4 cup water). It turned out good, not too strong and super moist. HTH

if you're baking your cakes, use the extracts, the alcohol cooks out and you just wasted the money on liqours.

to make a rum or spirited cake..

you boil equal amounts of sugar and water..take about 6 ounces of this simple syrup and add about 2 ounces of the liq. when the cooked syrup has cooled down... this can be brushed onto your layers or poured onto your cakes.

I like to make my syrup by adding a stick of unsalted buter and then adding about 1/3 cup of rum.

GAH! icon_smile.gif Rummy buttery sweet RUM syrup! icon_smile.gif MMMmmmm.

Risque's right on the money. If you don't want to have to use real rum, you can just bake the cake using the Lorann oils (if they have rum flavor in Lorann--I don't know) or you can buy rum extract at the grocery and use that!

Here's a recipe for the old fashioned type of rum cake. I have made 16 of these suckers this year for guys at the dep't already!!! GAH!!

Enjoy--they're both wonderful tasting ideas! (I might go with a yellow cake and add the rum flavoring--just a suggestion.)

I'm not much of a drinker--truly. I might have a glass of wine occasionally, or a cocktail like twice a year on a rough day or whatever.

But I swar---the smell of that darned rum cake with butter just makes me swoon! icon_rolleyes.gif I remember the first time I ever had a taste of it at my Aunt's house---wow.
