Good morning all icon_smile.gif

I work for a construction company, and I have a bunch of guys as my bosses...chuckle... Yes, they are all happy that I am taking cake decorating classes as I have been bringing all the results up here for disposal...lol icon_razz.gif So...any good ideas that I could do for Boss's Day coming up on October 16th?

Thanks!
Pat

I've seen some cute "construction" cakes in the gallery - things like hammers and measuring tapes made out of fondant as toppers. There have also been some cute ones of different trucks - like 3d sculpted ones as well as model trucks in little constructions sites. You could alwas do a Bob the Builder cake - Wilton make the pan - and just change it up so it doesn't look like Bob...

I actually did a pretty simple one for my son's first birthday. I layered two 9 x 13 (should serve 45), cut one corner down and put that part in the opposite corner, so now you have a hilly terrain. I iced in white, put crushed oreos for dirt, used heath bar pieces for gravel and even bought little chocolate rocks to put in little clumps around. I used the 233 tip to make green pull out grass. I had little Tonka construction trucks that were perfect size for it all, even put oreo dirt and rocks IN the dump truck and loaders. Sounds kind of kid-ish, but I thought it turned out really cute. Good luck!

One that I think works up cute, (doesn't have anything to do with construction) make the whole cake like a round cheese and put little mice all over it (the ones made with a cherry dipped in chocolate). Make a sign or write on the cake, "to the big cheese".
I know that idea has been used a lot but it may be new to them.

Oh my gosh - I love the "big cheese" idea! If I didn't think my boss would kill me for even recognizing the day I would make that! He is very low-key - but i do plan to make him some cookies that he doesn't have to share with the group.

Love the cheese idea! icon_smile.gif But how would I word it... "To the Big Cheese's"... Laughing...there are about 8 men that I work with, but they are the "top" corporate guys in the company...

Thanks!

For the publishing guy... How about something along the lines of "For the Biggest Kid in the Company" with a little kid handing a man a blue ribbon or trophy or something... Maybe in the "book" pan?

Hope that helps...

i was asked to post my mice here for the 'big cheese' theme. to be honest, the cheese isn't cake, though. it's a block of florist foam that i cut and papered to look like cheese. but i'll bet you could make a cake that would look like cheese really easily! this is just supposed to highlight the mouse, so the cheese is fake.

good luck, these all sound like fun ideas!
