I hate sifting. I tried the sifter that you pull a handle and it spins inside. It just gets jammed constantly. I bought one of those big sifters from the restaurant supply place. It's about 14 inches in diameter, basically a big screen. It works okay, but kind of makes a mess. You can't really tap it, that goes really slow. I found pulling a spatula back and forth thru the sugar is about the most efficient. It works the best so far, but still not that great. Somebody must have figured out a way to get 2lbs of CS sifted easier and quicker than what I'm fumbling around with.

This is my favorite sifter, I don't have to squeeze and I don't have problems with anything getting caught in it.

Me Too!!! I had one kind of like it but way smaller, hated it. This one works great

Hi, for large quantity sifting, a flexible plastic bowl/bench scraper (just google it) in conjunction with the large mesh screen works great for us...no need to shake the screen thingie at all, just sweep the scraper back & forth to push the flour/sugar/whatever through the screen.

I agree wire mesh colondar or seive, works best, easy to use inexpensive and as Alton Brown would say "it's a multi tasker. Bought a bunch of expensive kitchen gadget and most of the time the cheap ones last longer and work better.
Agreed! Just spent .99 on one at Wal-Mart, works great.

The colendar with the handle fits right onto the bowl, and I shake it side to side to sift it through. Much less messy! I hate sifting too. Is before AND after measuring really necessary? I do it, because other cc-ers said "yes, before and after, you really have to." <<<Cheryl

I never knew that that would do it. I bought an awful sifter but I hate to use it so I just chose not to sift instead.
My frosting always turns out fine. What will the sifting do for it?

I also use a large sieve and a big spoon or spatula. Im just not happy using a sifter, maybe its because Im lazy and hate to have to clean it! Its got lots of curves and crevasses inside for stuff to sit in. My sieve sits nicely over any large bowl, and cleans in a breeze! Oh, and I dont usually sift my powdered sugar unless it really needs it.

Sieve too! When I first started decorating, bought a sifter and HATED it. Hate is such a strong word but the way I felt about it. Love the sieve and it's so easy to use.

I've also been very frustrated with the sifter jamming. I bought a very inexpensive set of sieves (3 sizes to fit whatever bowl size I'm using.) I add the powdered sugar and whisk away to move it through fast. Works better than the expensive sifters. I have used a sifter like the link above, and they also work great, they are a lot pricier though.

I never used to sift, but doing the MMF it's a must, not always for frosting, but I started buying powdered sugar from Costco in bulk and noticed that it is a little bit tougher to work with unless I sift it.

I have the sifter mentioned above and my only complaint is the fly away dust cloud of ps it makes. I don't sift all the time but more often tha not the PS in the 4 lb. bags from B J' have such hard lumps I don't have a choice. I'll sift for the $ savings.

I always make sure that I buy 10x powdered sugar so that I never have to sift. It saves sooo much time!
