I have orders to do a Tres Leches cake mix cake (recipe is in the recipe section) but the customer wants it brought to work. We work about 9-10 hours and im concerned that it will spoil if not kept refrigerated . Has anyone tried this cake or have any thought on the storage of it. thanks in advance-- Cheryl

CherylAnn Sorry I don't know your answer but had a ?? for you. This will sound dumb I am sure. But what does the cake taste like. From what I am guessing is it like carmel?? I am a dummy sometimes I ahve seen it posted and often wondered. And thought in these wee hours I could get my answer without looking Dumb

Thats not a dumb question!!! If you want to hear something dumb then here goes... I have no idea what it taste like. I work with mostly male hispanics, and I've been trying to come up with a cake that they will buy as they celebrate the holidays. Most are here without females and speak little english. One american lady is married to one and so I questioned her, what type of cake would sale. She ask her husband and thats what he said Tres Leches. I lucked into it on the recipe section, printed it out and took it with me to work. Every hispanic that I questioned about it....its good, or not good was ahhhhhhhhhhh its gooooood. You make one for me..... so I'm going to make one to take to work for samples on Monday, but I know I can store one in the fridge in the office once but.... were talking lotsssssss of orders from the way it sounds so.... I may have a van full of tres leches cakes going door to door lol.... but I will definately let you know how it tastes. She says very moist and good.....

Thanks for the heads up. I will be doing a hispanic wedding this next Sept. And I will try this cake. To see if that is what they will want. It is for a friend of my niece. She is to pay for they cake for her friend she said. It is some sort of tradtion she said. My BIL is hispanic (tex mex) also and wanted me to put together some ideas to share with his friends (from mexico) He could really sell for me if I can figure it out. So thank you for any input you may have

Tres Leches is very good! It is the most popular flavor for any celebration at least with my parents and their friends. Think of it as a simple syrup, but made with three different kinds of milk. It is also very popular to top it with fresh or canned fruit along with the whipped topping or whipped cream frosting. It is also good with some rum or brandy mixed in with the milks. I'm rambling on now so I will stop.

From what I am guessing is it like carmel??
Hey Girl! You are thinking of dulce de leche (caramel)!
I make the tres leches III cake recipe on here (one of the scratch cakes I know how to make-yeah me!) and it is so good. Like others said you soak the cake (I use a dowel to poke holes in the cake) with condensed milk, heavy cream, and evaporated milk. Then I top it with sweetened whipped cream. It is very yummy, not overly sweet.
Definitely has to be refridgerated.

Well, it was interesting...
The texture wasn't anything like I was familiar with (somewhat coarse and open) and the three milks were sweet, but didn't really have any but a milk flavor.
However, I'm going to try the recipe which uses cake mix as a base so that might help with the texture issue. As for the milk flavor, I don't drink milk - I don't like milk....
(However, I'm a fool for any recipe that calls for heavy cream )
So there you have it!
HTH

I made a tres leches cake for a cinco de mayo party this year. I made three different recipes before hand and sent them to work with hubby. We strongly preferred one of the recipes and I'll go in a second and try to figure out which one. I definately wouldn't leave it out for more than a couple hours. I made mine in disposable pans because I didn't have anything big enough to hold in all the liquid. You can't just put in on a covered cake circle! We also used only half the amount of liquid to pour over and believe me it was plenty.
I decorated the top with whipped cream made from 2 cups of heavy cream and 1/2 box of instant pudding. The cheesecake and white chocolate flavors are great because the flavor is subtle. I then put slices of strawberry, kiwi, and mandarin orange. Everone loved it. Here's a pic on one of them. This was the last one I did and I got tired of decorating LOL. The other ones looked much nicer.
