I'd like to know if it is customary to give out either cookie or mini-cake favours at the rehearsal dinner.
I am making the wedding cake for my son but don't know if a rehearsal favour is customary, or just a nice thing to do...
I am unsure if I have time to do these unless I make cookies ahead of time...
It would be 30 cookies/cakes maximum for the rehearsal..
The rehearsal is on Oct 11 and wedding Oct 13.

Any advice would be appreciated...
Thx
Jane

It is not required, but if you wanted to, you do them and freeze them way ahead of time.

I've never seen favors done, but I've seen couples give their attendants gifts at this time.

ditto to the ditto.

Always thought this was the time gifts were given to attendants (that is the favor).

Ditto to the ditto to the ditto...after having been in many weddings and attended a plethora of rehearsal dinners I have never seen favors given at that time. Just gifts to the wedding party. Hope that helps icon_biggrin.gif

Yeah I'm with Debbie. The couple normally gives out gifts to the wedding party and special guests. No favors needed.

It is not customary to give out favors at a rehearsal dinner. Generally the bride and groom will give their attendants their gifts that evening and that generally cover it.

For my nephew's rehersal dinner we did cookies and had them laying on the tables when people came in. Also at a friends wedding she was moving to Kentucky so she wanted a Texas theme for the rehersal and we made Texas shaped cookies for rehersal dinner. I think it is kinda cool to have a little cookie for them to take home. Espically when people are stuck in hotel rooms - it is always nice to have a little something to snack on late in the evening.

Favors are customary for the wedding, but generally not the rehearsal.

Favors at wedding are becoming more popular and the thing to do. Just look at all of the Brides magazines and Martha Stewart Weddings - they are all over the place. You will see them with a monogram, the shape of a wedding cake, a rectangle with thank you written on them, etc all in the wedding colors. You can either place one at each place setting or set up baskets around the reception area - especially by the sign in book. I believe these are taking the place of the standard rice and bubbles.

And yes - it is nice to give the guests a little treat to have once they arrive back home or at the hotel.

My son's wedding was the 8th of this month and rehearsal dinner was the night before. My husband and I had everyone get together at a restaurant for pizza, toss salad and I made a rehearsal cake. icon_smile.gif I'm new so I didn't do the wedding cake.
The bride and groom had gifts for everyone at that time and they made wedding favors for all 70 wedding guests of honey butter in little quilted jars that I made embroidered covers for.
Here are photos of the cake and embroidered jar covers.

I don't think it is a must but it is cute. I have gotten a lot of orders for rehearsal dinners.
