Well, tomorrow is the little man's birthday. And he wants either an ed edd and eddy cake like the one i already made by FBCT, or a Steelers cake. Well, I REALLY dont wanna do the FBCT again as it's sooo time consuming.. So I was thinking bout trying a chocolate transfer. Well i didnt make it to the store to get the colored candy melts... I DO have brown and white almond bark, but i've read that you cant color them with wilton colors, which is all I have...
So has ANYONE tried it and not gotten bad results? I had company all weekend and am left with last minute cake making... ugh
Thanks for any input!!!

The gel can seize the chocolate. I have used them way back when but oil based is best. I heard that you can add flow coat to help it along though.

I have used regular colors, just add shortening to keep it from seizing. That's what you should do about the candy if you get water in it too.

Ok, well I did it... And i gotta say the wilton gel colors sure DOES sieze it up.. and almost instantly!!! I added shortening, but it still didnt get to the consistency of the non colored stuff.. Was thicker and more difficult to work with. (almond bark is gross in the first place lol). The cake is in the oven now so i'll post a pic when im done. (wanted to try the choco thing first in case it didnt work i'd have time to regroup and do something else. lol)
I LOVE doing it tho! SO much better than FBCT. But next time I'll plan ahead and use precolored candy melts. lol

You could also do it white with choc outlines, then paint with gels afterwards. It could even be a coloring book cake, and let him paint it himself.

perhaps as an alternative next time if you have some luster dusts you can paint the chocolate after the transfer is made. your cake came out cool regardless..nice job!
