I already posted this under "how do I" but nobody seems to want to answer icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif I am wanting to make the pumpkin pie cake I saw here on CC. My question is can I just bake it in the tin? If yes then what temp do you reccomend and for how long?

Here is a link to the pic I am talking about

I don't see why you couldn't. I would still bake at 350 (some people use 325 which would be fine too). As for how long? Maybe 30 mins? You'll have to watch it through the window. It shouldn't take longer than the directions say for an 8" round cake. Hope that helps!

That is a cute cake! If I were making it I'd bake in the pie tin. I don't think you have to change the temp., a pie plate is basically an 8 in round. Its the slice cut out that would be the problem. The pie plate will be dirty from the cake. Perhaps there is a way to clean that one spot before decorating. Then the pie crust look is only done on that cut out slice.

hope that helps

thanks guys! you know after I posted I realized what a sumb questions that was! I mean people bake cupcakes is the disposable tins everyday! Duhhh.....That's what happens when i work night I get loopy! I guess my biggest concern was the temp which you guys answered as well so thank you.

fmandds, I didn't eve think about the "dirty" part of the pie pan. Hmm maybe it will just give it more of a realistic look. I mean when you cut a pie it doesn't come out looking like nothing was ever there before right?

I will hopefully post later on this evening with a finished picture. Thanks for your help icon_smile.gif

Happy early Thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!

I think the best way to clean up that area of the pie plate would be to use a hot damp paper towel.... Or, bake in one pie plate, cut out the "piece" and transfer the cake to another pie plate... or just clean that one up while the cake cools and put right back in....sorry, I'm typing as I think. lol

I made one without the slice cut out on Sunday, and dh said everyone thought it was a pumpkin pie, even after it had been cut. He said the only problem was it was a little dry on the edges. I guess because it is so much thinner than in the middle. I baked it at 325 til a toothpick came out clean in the center...don't remember how long.

Looks great! I really like the slice taken out.

Yes, except I only spell Jen with 1 n! I can't believe I'll actually be 30 in a few months icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif

Jenn1978,
So you just made a 1 box cake mix and bake in a 10" pie tin? This looks like a good project. Nice job!

I used the 9 in pie pan and you actually can get two "pies" out of one mix icon_smile.gif very easy to do!
