could someone tell me what beater attachment to use for mixing cakes using a kitchen aid mixer. is it the wisk looking attachment or the thick white one????

The thick white one. Not the wire one. The wire one is for meringues, whipping cream, etc. Cakes, brownies, etc. are all done with what they call the 'flat beater' which is the white one. Have fun with it if this is your first KA. I've had one (actually this is my second one) for over 29 years and can't do without it!!

Yep, thats it.
I used my mom's growing up, her KA. Then when my gramma passed, I was handed down hers. Its really old, has the 1960's style writing on the side, dunno what year it was made. It works fabulously. My mom just recently gave me hers as well as she really doesn't bake anymore. So now I have the two and I couldnt be happier!
