The quilted look you can get from an impression mat or a rolling tool. Wiltom makes one with 3 or 4 attachments....

As far as getting it smooth, I am not the greatest at that......sorry icon_smile.gif

For the quilted look an impression mat. I just bought one. I can wait to try it. For getting the cake smooth I guess is just practice. I'm still working on that icon_biggrin.gif sorry.

there are loads of threads here that tell different ways to smooth icing.

There's the viva method, the hot spatula method, and the latest and greatest method..... the sponge roller method

Impression matt for quilt yep. As for the smooth part there are a few ways to try. There's the paper towel method which there if a tutorial on and then there is the sponge roller methor. There is a thread on here detailing it but i cant find it. Maybe someone else remembers it? Not sure if that helps.

Flat and even, practice, practice, practice. Quilting, an impression mat. There are several available costing $5. and up. There are rolling pins that have sleeves to make all sorts of beautiful designs. The rolling pins cost somewhere around $30 (more or less, depending on brand, size) and the sleeves are extra, costing $15 and up. I don't know if Michael's carries anything along this line or not. You can look at them on line.

I need suggestions on how to make a catapillar cake. I need around 40 servings. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have the small ball cake pan, and I thought of making about 6 of them and arranging them like a catapillar, but I need more servings that. icon_rolleyes.gif

Grandmageni,

Use your small ball pans to make the catapiller and put it on a 1/4 or 1/2 sheet. He (she) can be crawling around in grass, or looking over a small mound with flowers round him. Have lots of fun with him.
