Help With Construction Of Cake W/toilet Roll On Top!!
Decorating By poochynooch Updated 15 Aug 2007 , 3:48pm by Cake_Mooma

I am making a cake - 10" square with an 8" square (both double layers) on top and need to top it off with a 6" double layer representing a roll of toilet paper (Bday boy has issues!). Id like to set the roll on its side with the paper cascading down the front of the cake -- was planning to do the whole thing in fondant. Thing is Im not sure it will work as fondant may be too soft - thought of creating the cascade with gumpaste - attaching it to the fondant covering the roll. I know someone out there has probably attempted this -- there's too much talent out there for it not to be attempted. Would love to hear your suggestions!!!!

If I understand correctly you are inquiring about the 'toilet paper' draping down the side part?
I haven't done it yet, but I assume it would be the same as the swags that people put on cakes. My understanding is that this is a mixture of gumpaste and fondant (though I don't know what ratio) so that it is neither to hard or to soft.
Hope that helps some...

I know I didn't own any gumpaste when I made fondant "tissue paper" (not toilet paper mind you! but it was rolled thin...so similar idea) so I used fondant+gumtex. 50/50 fondant/gumpaste would work well too. Would assume that straight gp would work too if you work fast, but since I haven't done that, don't quote me on it .

I HAVE NEVER DONE THIS ONE BUT IT SHOULD BE A CUTE CAKE TO SEE GOOD LUCK.
HAVE YOU TRY TO DO THE TOP WITH RICE CRISPY MUCH LIGHTER.
AGAIN GOOD LUCK

Never thought of rice krispies for the toilet paper --but will definately incorporate this into the construction! And mixing gp w/fondant -- great suggestion. Knew you guys would have some great ideas!! Thanks.

The idea of the TP made out of gumpaste/fondant is good BUT, (you knew there was a but coming- no pun intended) you wouldn't be able to do it ahead of time ( craking, breaking) and it would be very hard when it dried. I would treat it -like someone mentioned- like a draping on a cake and I would roll it very, very thin and drape it the same. I would do it made 60/40 fondant/gumpaste. I hope that helps.
