Put your cake in a regular cake box and fasten the lid so that the lid won't close on the top of the cake, then tape plastic wrap around the open side of the box.
Alternatively, you can use a packing box that's been cut open on one side. Slide the cake in and then tape the side of the box so that it's closed.

You can buy cake box extenders which are like long L shaped pieces of card which hold the lid up above where it would normally sit so that the cake can be as high as you like. I'm UK based so I'm not sure where they would be sold in the US. You can also buy boxes for stacked cakes - they do come very expensively though.


You can use two boxes - cut off the top flap of each. One will be the top box and the other the bottom. If you make little notches in both the top and bottom box, you can carefully place the "lid" so that the notches support the top box and won't slip off into your cake. add a little tape too!
