Hi

Does anyone have any ideas how I can decorate a maypole cake. A friend has requested the following for her 5year old daughter's birthday party. The party is themed princess tea party.

She would like:
-maypole with ribbons
-4 to 6 girls dancing around
-two tiers -6 inch and 9 inch
-bright purple in colour

I just can't imagine where to place the girls, what to put on the sides of the cake.... etc. I am comfortable decorating with MMF and buttercream.

I thank you in advance for any help, suggestions, pictures etc. icon_smile.gif

possibly????

girls: cookies (could even use gingerbread girl cookies)

ribbons: ribbon

maypole: large pretzel rod, de-salted and wrapped in fondant w/ ball of fondant on top (could hit the ball w/ gold luster)

tiers: bright purple, then add complimentary flowers in gold.

lines on tiers: gold luster OR could do quilting and add gold dragees or gold fondant pearls or little flowers at the intersections in the quilting

Ok I am not an artist - so try to picture this.....Take Doug's design, but move the girls down to the next level. (That way you can just stick them to the side of the top tier) Then make the ribbons cascade off the top tier to their hands....make sence??

You could us a big candy stick (like those rainbow colored ones) for the maypole.

OH NO!!!! don't tell me they're selling the Christmas candy peppermint sticks already down there!!!!

a least not here -- yet -- tho' considering Wally-world has Christmas lights and other stuff on sale...oh, give 'em a week or so.

(feels LONG rant coming on about over commercialization of Christmas)

Thank you so much for the ideas.

Doug all I have to say is wow to the drawing icon_smile.gif I love it!
Becky Sue, I do like the idea of moving them down one level and making the ribbons longer. I can then stick the girls to the side and don't have to worry so much about them falling over.
Dydemus. Great idea about those large candy sticks . Now I just need to find one in the right colours.

Thanks again everyone.

Does the mother realize that the Maypole dance is a fertility dance? icon_lol.gif

I've been teaching the Maypole dance to Grade 1'ers for the last 5 years. The drawing is great. Maybe the ribbon can be put into a design around the pole before it's placed in the girls' hands.

I make chocolate covered pretzel rods for my daughter all the time. I use candy melts around the holidays for the extra color. Maybe you could use a chocolate covered pretzel rod for the maypole?

I did not know that it was a fertility dance! I am sure her father will be very happy to hear it icon_biggrin.gif

The birthday is this Saturday so I hope to post the pictures that morning.

Thanks everyone! I love this site icon_smile.gif
