I want to make an authentic volkswagen beetle car but am not a cake carver. I have used the wilton car pan but it is much too square. Is there anything I can use to mold over a model car to create my own cake mold? I might be dreaming but just thought I would ask...I've learned so many other things on CC I thought maybe there is such a thing out there. Thanks for any help you can give me!

my best GUESS

if you could find one of the food grade silicone mold making products that could be used for baking after the mold is made.

one source of food grade silicone:

www.chefrubber.com

I checked their site, but couldn't find anything that specifically said you could bake in the resulting molds, so you may have to call or email them.

they do have lots of stuff used by pro chefs to do all that amazing pastry/sugar work -- so if anyone would know they probably would.

i read it too and found this on the instruction sheet

Post cure the mold so that it can be used for food products. There are two methods for post
curing.
1. Place mold on a wire rack and bake in oven at 350F for 4hrs.
2. Place mold on wire rack and allow to rest for 7 days at room temperature
