Hello I tried this icing on the weekend and it was a store bought cake, THe questsion that I have is the icing was not very sweet but it was creamy. It was stiff though.....like if you wanted to to decorations like with buttercream you could use this icing. My husband does not like the buttercream icing because it is too sweet. Can anyone suggest an icing recipie to me that is like the one I described above. Thanks Jen

What type of BC frosting recipe are you using? The Crusting BC frosting recipe in the recipe gallery is great tasting and I don't think it is too sweet. You could try it with your hb and see what he thinks.

It's called Rich's Bettercreme or Pastry Pride depending on what are you are from. Around here you can get it from your Sam's Club bakery. Not sure about other places.

jlmaison: No, the crusting bc recipe I use does not call for meringue powder at all. But you might think this one is too sweet also. It makes a huge batch.
2 lbs. sifted powdered sugar
1/2 cup or 1 stick butter, softened.
1-1/2 cups solid vegetable shortening
2 tbsp. clear vanilla extract
1/3 cup water for icing cake -OR- 1/4 cup for stiff consistency.
1/4 tsp. almond extract
