My husband is running to town and was going to pick up the stuff for me and I'm not sure what I need. I just bought the 12x18 sheet pan. What size board and box would I use for it???? Is 19x14 to small????
THANKS!!

Ok, I do buy the 13x14 boards, but have found they are just not big enough for me to use with the 12x18 pan size.
Now what I do is buy a piece of foam board that is 1/2" thick. If you cut it right in half, I find it is perfect for this pan size. It also gives alot more stability to the cake.
I buy mine at Michael's, because I can't seem to find 1/2" thickness at walmart. They usually only half 1/4" thick. I cover it just like I would other boards.
BTW- Sometimes it is hard to cut it straight and someone one here recently talked about a hot knife. I found one at Michael's for $14.99 and used the 40% off coupon. I used it two days ago and it worked great!
Hope this helps, Sherri

You're going to need a board at least 14x20. Bigger will be alright, but not smaller. If he's getting cake boards, he needs to get at least 3 that you can glue together. If possible, he should pick you up a 20x30 sheet of 1/2 inch foamboard. I use a straight edge and an Xacto knife to cut mine.
As for the box, well, whatever size the board will fit into! There are large half-sheet cake boxes 14-1/2" x 20-1/2", but I have no idea if they're available in your area.

I buy the cake boards at Michaels and the 19 x 14 box - very tight fit. I think I would trim the sides of the cake a little bit before icing it to give you some room to fit on a border without getting crushed by the box. I recently ordered bigger boxes and boards online from Cake Art. I hope that helps!

MessyBaker,
I have never heard of a hot knife, what exactly is it? I gather it is a good investment.
