Newbie here,
Well, had my first encounter with Royal Icing.
I now have 2 Ka-billion teeny flowers drying on my pool table.
How long do I let dry before storing, AND how to store????
I would appreciate ANY tips about Royal Icing since I am new at this.
(I had to throw away my first batch of Royal I now know there is a true art to just mixing up the stuff! )
Thanks, Doleta
PS You guys are great. Gives a newbie hope.

When I make anything out of royal I let it sit overnight to dry. I generally keep mine in a cardboard box for safe keeping. I have so many different flowers left over from this or that or ones that I just wanted to try that I started putting them in little bags in the box. Organization is not one of my strong points but I don't want to dig through a million little flowers to find the one that I want!

Welcome, Doleta! Make sure your flowers are completely dry before storing. Two days probably! You should store the dry flowers in Tupperware or similar container at room temperature. They will keep for years.
Any leftover royal that is still in the icing stage should be stored in tupperware with a piece of plastic wrap right on top of the icing, then the lid on the tupperware. That should be stored in the fridge.
While using Royal, the portion that is still in the mixing bowl should be kept covered with a damp towel. When it's in the icing bag and you're not using it, poke the open end of the tip into a wet paper towel or wet cloth. The other end should be twisted up closed anyhow.

I used small tupperware or rubbermaid containers for mine too. I have a "flower making event" about twice/year to make the flowers I figure i'll need for the next 6 months or so. And I make multiple colors. I let the small ones dry for a day (they are smaller than a dime) and the medium to larger ones I dry for 1-2 days depending on the thickness and size of the flowers. I leave them on the wax paper squares and just slide them into the containers. If you take them off the wax paper, they might stick to each other (at least, I've had that happen).
