Wilton 32Pc Gumpaste Flower Kit- What Piece Is This???
Decorating By melysa Updated 28 Sep 2006 , 10:23pm by melysa

Many of you will know what i am talking about...the 32 piece gumpaste flower kit by wilton comes with all the obvious cutters, foam, rollers, instruction book...then there are two other pieces. a flat yellow pad with a clear plastic cover that is attached on one side (i am assuming this can be used in copying patterns?) and the one that really perplexes me is actually 2 white pieces that look like it could actually support a picture frame or something. it looks totally un cake related. HELP please!!! I feel like i should know this, but i dont, and the book doesnt show it or talk about its purpose. Thanks in advance!

Are you taking a class or just bought the kit? In the regular classes the yellow pad with clear plastic cover was used for practicing making borders, flowers and stuff. You would put a sheet with diffrent steps for making the borders under the clear plastic then pipe your icing over it. The clear plastic made it easy to wipe up icing and use again. As for the two white pieces. Do they look like a pvc pipe cut in half? if so, they are used to hold flowers made from royal icing so they can curve like real flowers. I haven't used the gumpaste kit yet, so I may be wrong. Maybe someone else who has used the kit can help. Is there an 800# you can call for help? You might go to the wilton.com website. Good luck.

I haven't bought a Wilton kit in quite a while, but I think I can help explain some of the stuff.
The yellow piece with the clear plastic cover is for keeping pre-cut pieces of flower, leaves, etc. from drying while you are working assembly line style. Essentially, after you cut out a bunch of leaves, you will want to keep them away from the air while you thin, vein, and shape a leaf.
The frame holder pieces are just that, but are meant to hold a practice board for working on the sides of the cake. The yellow piece is probably meant to be placed on that. It's not very stable, but it does help learn how to decorate on a vertical surface.
I don't know if I got any of this right, but I hope it helped.

The yellow plastic board with clear cover is dual purpose.
It is the "practice board" used in the 1,2,3 courses AND it's used in gum paste to cover pieces you've cut out so that they don't dry out.
The white plastic piece is the easel that you would put the board on (using buttercream or royal) in a 1,2,3 class so that you can get the hang of piping on the side of a cake. It has no use for gum paste.
I think because the two things are pre-packaged together for the practice set, they just put them in the gum paste kit without separating out the easel--probably couldn't figure out what to do with all of the leftover ones
