I want to make some cookies to frost really really really bad.....and i want to have them for my little girls party this weekend, so i needed to have started like yesterday since ihave nto done them before...but im out of butter i used the last to make BC for her cupcakes this morning...so can i use margarine ro make my cookies or will they not turn out right? if i can what is the best recipe to use? or could i just use it in place of the butter in the recipe?
Thanks Bunches

I use margarine - I recommend Imperial - and they turn out just fine. I think they also have a longer shelf like with margarine. Everyone has their preference, but if your in a pinch I think you'll be okay.
The recipe I use is VERY close to the no fails. I've been using for 15 years.
1 cup margarine
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup sugar
3 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
cream margarine and sugar. add egg and vanilla. add flour and BP. Knead all together.
I do not refrigerate and bake at 375 for 10 - 12 minutes depending on the cookie size.
Good luck.

I always forget to leave out the butter to get soft so I use butter flavored shortening. I have never used margarine.....I've wondered how cookies would turn out using maragine.

You can use margarine! They won't be exactly the same, but they'll be very close.
Make sure the margarine you're using is not made with water in it, or you may not get good results.
You want to use the stick margarine, not the tubs.
Margarine that has 100 calories and 11 grams of fat per serving (tbsp) is made with all oil. If it has fewer calories, then it has some water in it.
The brands I use are Land'o'Lakes and Fleischmann's, but there may be other brands available in different areas.
hth, and have fun with the cookies!
Laura.
