My daughter will be 6, and she wants a kitty cat party. Not Hello Kitty, mind you, just cats in general. She adores our pet, they are best friends. She chose some party supplies that have different pictures of kitties, it's called "The Cat" collection (http://www.birthdayexpress.com/bexpress/product.asp?sku=E2478).
Anyway, I do not know what to do for the cake. I don't think I want to make a sheet cake. I saw the kitty on top of the ball of yarn from Debbie Brown, but I do not have the book, and I don't know if it will be big enough (we are going to have a ton of kids invited).

Guys, I need your help with ideas!

what about making a big stacked cake.....maybe with 10 in rounds.......like four stacked up.........if you need less servings use a smaller round........and decorate it to look like a Kitty condo........maybe use black fondant as the "holes" just to give the illusion.......and then use the wilton lamb pan to make a kitty lounging on the top or something!

Thanks. Do you have instructions on how to change the lamb into a cat?

Any one else has more suggestions?

For those of you who have made Debbie's cake, how was it?

This is an extremely special ocassion. She knows I make special cakes for all my friends, so I want to make it even better for her.

I made Debbie's cake just recently - it was fine to do, although I did use buttercream for the yarn (by request), not fondant, but I think fondant would be more attractive! I used the 3D sports ball for the cake and I would say that it served 16 decent portions, I've seen this cake (maybe on this site?), put on top of a sheet cake that was decorated to look like a rug with the yarn from the ball curling down onto it, you'd only need a 11x7in, and that would give you another 18 2x2x2 servings. I have Debbie's book, if you need me to scan the pages into a pdf file, pm me your email address and I'll get it sent to you. Good luck and happy birthday to your daughter!

I would say you should be able to cut off the ears from the lamb , frost the whole thing maybe take a skewer once the icing crusts a little and draw lines in the "fur" giving the effect of hair and then pipe on the tail with icing and run the skewer through it too to make it look hairy and then maybe form some ears out of fondant and frost the backs leaving the front of them smooth and then add on either piped whiskers and a cat like nose and mouth or you could use black rope licorice for the whiskers or even use food colors to paint spaghetti black.

I've got an old Wilton yearbook, 1978, I think, that uses the horseshoe as the cat's body and a small round as it's head. I'm planning on doing it for Halloween. Don't know if it'd work for you, the cat's back is pretty arched so it looks a little unfriendly icon_smile.gif

Here I am all week trying to figure out this cat cake, and I'm leaning towards Debbie Brown's, so I ask my daughter what flavor she wants, and she says "I want lemon cake and chocolate cake and a pink handle". So then I ask "what pink handle? icon_confused.gif ", and she says "the handle for the purse cake, Mommy". "What purse cake?, I thought you wanted a kitty cat cake". "Yes Mommy, I want a purse cake with a picture of Phoebe (our cat) in the front".
Sooooo, there is my dilemma solved: a purse with a kitty cat picture that looks like our cat icon_lol.gif . Aren't little girls adorable? princess.gif I will post a picture when I'm done.
