Baking By Feefs Updated 16 Sep 2006 , 12:49am by prettycake

Hi all
Just wondering if anyone has a fav choc cake recipe that they have found that is fool/idiot proof ... each of the ones I have tried aren't consistently good... could be the chef!... anyways... need one that is made from scratch and doesn't include packet mixes etc (unless they are available in Australia)
Thanks for any help

I have just posted a recipe for my favorite chocolate cake. You can make variations with it by using strong coffee in place of the boiling water or add other flavoring such as cinnamon. It's very versatile and freezes well.

This is may all-time favorite chocolate cake recipe. It uses a lot of natural (not dutch processed cocoa powder) which is a bit pricey, but its worth it. This cake is great, I've never had it fail.

this is the only chocolate recipe i'll use. everyone Raves about it. it is dense and moist and yummy : ) .... you can't screw it up, I PROMISE! and it is soooo easy to make.
INGREDIENTS:
* 2 cups white sugar
* 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
* 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
* 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
* 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 2 eggs
* 1 cup milk
* 1/2 cup vegetable oil
* 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
* 1 cup boiling water
DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour two nine inch round pans.
2. In a large bowl, stir together the sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add the eggs, milk, oil and vanilla, mix for 2 minutes on medium speed of mixer. Stir in the boiling water last. Batter will be thin. Pour evenly into the prepared pans.
3. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until the cake tests done with a toothpick.

Im so glad someone asked this.. I too was thinking about making a cake from scratch... I need a good frosting recipe.. Something that does not have shortening in it and something I can decorate with... Oh yeah, any suggestions on what filling will go good with chocolate cake and chocolate frosting, other than well chocolate??

Peanut butter filling is THE BEST with a chocolate cake/chocolate frosting combo. Nutella (choc. hazelnut) is really good, too. Something coffee- or mocha-flavored would be delish. Caramel sounds yummy . . . Uh, oh, starting to drool here . . . (By the way, I love the Hershey's Syrup Frosting from this site.)

My favourite recipe is on this site by boonenati:

It is moist and light and fantastic with chocolate and cinnamon frosting. Top with strawberries and it is positively divine (and fattening). mmhhmm!!!

once you go scratch you'll never go batch .....
heheheh sorry just had to
I love the taste of scratch cakes.
