I am making a cake this weekend that needs tan/sand color. I have chocolate brown, ivory, terracota, and some other colors. I was thinking maybe chocolate brown with some ivory.

I will be using americolor gels in buttercream.

Thanks,
Cecilia

I'd go with the ivory with just a touch of brown.

If you have any, you could also try the "flesh" colour that wilton makes.

an alternate to using colored icing is to just use brown sugar for the sand effect.

Hi,
I hope this isn't too late. I saw this on the food
network station last night . The cake baker took left over cake crumbled it up, layed it on a cookie sheet and baked it until it dryed out. and crumbled it up over the cake. The natural color of the yellow cake was perfect for the sand.
I thought it was a cool idea.

When I make sand, I use golden yellow with a touch of brown and it works everytime.

I ended up using ivory with a touch of brown. It was perfect. Thanks everyone.
