One Lonely Can Of Strawberry Pie Filling
Baking By MillyCakes Updated 4 Sep 2006 , 2:29am by auntsushi

What is the easiest way to make a filling from a can of strawberry pie filling? I have a can in the pantry and it is crying to get used! I have several cakes ready to go - lemon, french vanilla, and almond - I think it can go with any of those! BUT - do I mix with butterceam, or puree it and use a really thick dam - WHAT TO DO - WHAT TO DO???!!!??

or do I just make a good strong dam and plop it in as is???
or do I just forget the cake and open it and eat it straight from the can?
decisions, decisions!
I vote: puree and then mix w/ BC. tort two layers so can have three layers of filling
and for fun:
use one layer of FV and one of almond but alternate layers after torting (FV, filling, almond, filling, FV, filling, almond)
or could do same w/ lemon and almond
-----------
of course the can is just calling to be eaten -- all by itself!

Thanks!! I think I will mix with buttercream and mix up some cakes!!!! What fun I will have tonight!!!!!!!

I use 1 can of Strawberry Pie filling, Marshmallow Creme and 8 oz. cream cheese to make a filling. Recipe is here on CC. I think it's called Strawberry Crema Filling. It would be good with the French Vanilla cake.

Aren't fillings fun ??? For years (before I started decorating recently) I had never made a cake with a filling. What WAS I thinking? Now, I can hardly imagine making one without. I personally think cake is kind of boring without a filling.
I discovered the pre-made fillings in the "sleeve" at the local cake supply store the other day (Cake Crafts in Littleton, Co) and now I wonder if I'll ever make a homemade filling again. The apricot one that I tried (with a yellow cake and cream cheese frosting) was delicious. And it was $3.10. I'm willing to bet it will fill three or four 8 or 9" cakes.
Your strawberry filling sounds yummy. I vote for white cake with strawberry filling (mixed with BC and almond). MMMMMMM.
