I always add it to my vanilla and other flavored cakes, but I've never made a chcolate cake before. I have one in the oven right now. I used the recipe on the back of the Hersheys can. Do I need to moisten it with simple syrup????

I have made that cake several times, and I never added a syrup to it. It is very moist on its own, in my opinion!

Personal preference, you can add it if you like and it won't hurt it.

I brush it on all my cakes, no matter what flavor the cake might be, I flavor the simple syrup to enhance the flavor of the cake filling. For a chocolate cake I mix instant coffee granules in with the sugar and water, and after I take it off the heat I add Kahlua.

1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup water
1/2 heaping teaspoon instant coffee granules
2 Tablespoons Kahlua

Bring to a boil and cook till sugar is dissolved, remove from heat and stir in Kahlua. I let it cool to room temperature before brushing on the cake layers. If there is leftover I freeze it.

Well, I added the regular simple syrup because I didn't have Kahlua, but I will definitely try it next time. Thanks ShirleyW!
