I left 4 sticks of real butter on the counter to soften and when I came back, they were gone.... and the dog has a seriously guilty look and I am positive she ate them! She has been stealing food lately but 1 lb. of butter???

Is anyone out there an animal person? Is this just going to make her ill or really hurt her??? thanks

(7 year old 70 lb. Lab )

that's a lot of fat. --- ah well, so much for the doggie diet!

if she doesn't barf it up....well...I wonder how much it will work like exlax.

I'd put her outside for at least 24 hours with full water dish.

(our dog once decided to eat the popped balloons after a party!.....now if that wasn't interesting the next day or two! such a look on his face when he went poo-poo! LOL! serves ya right ya dumb dog...but he survived...dignity NOT intact!)

Ok, thanks... I put her out just now but I didn't think about making sure she has plenty of fluids! icon_redface.gif Once she stole something.... I can't even remember what it was but I made the mistake of leaving her in the house while I went out.... Oy! What a never-to-be-repeated mess that was!

Thanks again.... and Casey thanks you too icon_smile.gif

vet tech for 15 years --Doug is right. diarreha is probably going to be the only problem. If that is the case, pepto will help, 2 tablespoons 2-3 times daily will work for her weight. Don't be alarmed if after the pepto you see dark tarry stool-it is a side effect of the pepto. You might also want to start her back on a bland diet for a day or so too. Boil chicken/ground beef -pour off all the grease and mix 50/50 with boiled rice.

of course nothing may happen and you may just need to give her a good scolding and of course a hug because of the tummy ache icon_lol.gif

my "puppy" (3-yr old 70-lb coonhound) recently had to go to the emergency vet ... long story, he may have gotten into something poisonus but we still don't know what for sure ...

but the vet said it could be Pancreatitis (sp?) which can be triggered by fatty foods. I guess it's more common in smaller dogs ... Just watch her carefully for severe lethargy, sort of hunching over her hind legs and rounding up her back, also for red eyes and dark gums. Those are signs of dehydration and if things get BAD, take her in right away!

Be sure she's getting plenty of water. Good luck!
(I'm not a vet tech, those are the symptoms our dog had)
(Dog is fine now)

I hope she's ok ,but most likely all that will happen is she'll gets diahrreah(sp?).

Jsut make sure she stays hydrated and she should be ok.

It's be 352g of fat.(i think i did the math right? Box says 1 tablspoon is a serving, 32 servings per box and there's 11g of fat per serving. So that'd be 32 times 11, right?).

I say jsut watch out how much fat she gets for a week or so. At least butter has a little heart healthy stuff...

Cake Diva--hows the dog? If you aren't seeing any symptoms yet you probably won't at this point.

She seems fine... I checked the yard for evidence of stomach ailments and find only the normal, daily stuff... Let her in last night since she seemed better and she tore thru the garbage as I slept....

I'm sure you can guess she is out again! I'm glad she didn't get sick because I love her but I am ready to wring her neck!
Thanks for all your posts -

I appreciate it icon_smile.gif

You are right!! I read something on the net about urban legends - where they refute the ones that are false, etc.... anyway, one of the 'legends' that they said was not so was that dogs will chew/destroy their owners things as 'revenge' and I said BS! They also said that we are imagining it when they 'hang their head' because dogs can't feel guilt...

I disagree! I knew before I got out of bed that she had done something wrong just by the look on her face and I am not crazy icon_smile.gif She is an adorable luv but whew!!!! Don't make her mad! I am only glad that she didn't decide to chew since I stupidly left my bag of vintage Frye boots on the floor last night.... OMG, I don't even want to think about it icon_cry.gif

I disagree too! You should see my dog on the rare occasion we really have to yell at him. It's sooo pathetic and sad you almost feel instantly guilty for even reprimanding him, even if he was getting into big big trouble!

LOL
