Ok, Now I dont have a dish washer. But any good ways to clean a flour sifter? We usually just let it soak a long time but there is always flour clogs. We have tried toothpicks too.
Anyone else have this problemo?

Same with me, I have never had an issue...what kind of sifter do you have? I have a crank sifter.

I never have a problem cleaning mine .. it comes clean really easily ... I have just a plain one that has a handle on it that you turn .. I'd think it would hold about 2 or 3 cups in it at a time ... but it's not hard to clean at all

i threw out my sifter because it was a pain in the but to clean, once you got those little pieces stuck in between the mesh. I went to using a mesh strainer to sift and its much faster and much easier to clean.

i have always used (when I had one) my Kirby vacuum on blow or a can of compressed air to clean it..... worked like a charm and I never had to worry about rust!

I was told to never get the sifter wet,,, is that a fallacy or what?

The best way that i have found to clean a sifter is: use your blowdryer while the flour, sugar, whatever is still dry. Then wash it as you normally would and put it in the oven at about 250 degrees for about 5 minutes to dry. Putting it in the oven each time will prevent rust from forming (my old home economics teacher taught me that.)

Misdawn, I'm going to try your trick to see if it works for me. Right now all I'm doing is wiping it out and storing it in a plastic storage cannister with a lid.

I am definitly going to try the hair dryer. Hopefully that will work and make it a lot easier to keep the sifter clean.

Thank you all for your tips.

You know Misdawn, I remember my home economics teacher telling me something about putting the sifter in the oven but I couldn't remember why.. lol .. I'm glad you refreshed my mind about that one .. I'll have to remember that icon_smile.gif

I've put my sifter in the oven for 15 years and never had one rust. The wire mesh inside it usually breaks before rust can develop! Hope the tip helps!

Misdawn....that is the same reasoning behind putting a cast iron pan on the burner after you wash it....works like a charm!!!

and yes hairdryer works too..... I just never wet mine.... I blew off whatever is in the sifter kind of like what you do with computers with the can of air and thats why I used them too!
