Good morning, everyone. Go to search here on CC and type in hot dog cake and then click on in the gallery. There's several pictures of hot dog cakes in there. Really neat looking.

Customer wants an all chocolate cake and done with all buttercream...so how could I get it to look like some of the ones that are fondant.....hmm...help??? Any sketch or ideas of how you would do it would be greatly appreciated. I love the fry look but don't want to make another cake in yellow just to get the fries.....By the way....what would you charge...It would be my first paid cake so I can't really charge a lot yet but don't want to under do it either...remember she doesn't have a lot of money for it either and she's a person from work. So my game has to be on top because I could get a lot of business from this.

I recently did one - all buttercream, no fondant. I think it's in my photos. I'll go check. If not, I'll add it.

Believe me, if I can do them, you can! It wasn't hard to do - you won't have any problem!

Here's one I did as a last minute order. Covered the board in some fabric I had on hand and then covered that with clear contact paper. The hot dog is shaped cake ball dough covered with fondant. Cake is BC. Baked an oval and carved a bit to shape, cut a groove down the center. Iced in a light color and then shaded it with light brown BC. Kinda plain, only piped on a little "ketchup" but that's what they get for last minute.[/img]

Shaped cake ball dough??? How do you do that? My one and only attempt at cake balls were more like mush puddles..... I think my cake I used was too moist or something.... it was just a gross puddle of gunk instead of a cake "ball" I can't imagine having sculpted with it! icon_smile.gif

By the way that hotdog is awesome!

Make a pound cake in the shape of a loaf, cut down the center and then trim a tiny bit to make the bun look more real if you have to, depends on how your corners come out. Then use 2 twinkies in the middle as the hotdog.

Here it is!!!!.......This is alllllll edible. The sheet cake and the hot dog are both devils food chocolate cake. The ketchup and mustard packets ane fries are MMF. All frosting is done with buttercream. The hot dog is cross dowled for support and underneath it are cookie stick dowels for support. I was told by my mother-in-law that I really shot myself in the foot for what I charged. What would guys have charged for it? This is my first paid cake order!!! I'm really excited!!! Do you guys think I'm good enough yet to seriously start promoting myself??? Let me know that and what you would have paid or charged for my cake..... thanks!!!!

I have never sold a cake, so I can't help on the price. But I think you did a great job on it. thumbs_up.gif
