Does anyone know of a whipped topiing similar to Rich's Whipped Topping? I can't find it in my area. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Check Sam's club if you have one, once in a great while I can find it there. I just wish I could find it more often! It comes in a box, 3 bags with plastic decorating tips for $18 the last time I bought it. (over a year ago though)

Recipe I use:

1 tub (8oz) whipped topping your choice of brand, I've used store brand
1/4 cup confectioner's sugar
1 cup milk
1 box vanilla instant pudding

Make sure the whipped topping is cold but not frozen at all. Mix with a whisk the pudding, water and c. sugar until completely combined and then gently fold in the whipped topping. You could probably do this with chocolate cool whip and chocolate pudding but haven't tried it.

I found this recipe on the internet awhile ago and saved it to my computer so I don't remember where I found it. You have to keep it in the fridge. If you want firmer frosting, let the pudding set up for about 5 minutes but don't let it totally set.

This tastes similar enough for me, I can't tell the difference between this and the stuff from the grocery store bakery that uses Rich's. My husband says if the cake is cold you can't tell the difference but if it's not chilled first he can tell a slight difference. My kids' couldn't tell the difference.

I've never tried Rich's before so I won't even know what the difference would be. It was recommended to me by another member. At least if I can't find it, I'll have your recipe to use. Thanks!

Doug,
I did a search yesterday after someone told me the brand they used. I called the store closest to me and they don't have any in stock! And they don't know when they're going to carry anymore.

I have never tried Rich's, but I use a wonderful non-dairy whipped cream called BC. It's made by a company called InstantWhip. It comes in a carton, like milk, and you just whip it up with the whisk attachment on your mixer. It ices soooooo smooth, and it tastes wonderful. My customers go nuts over it! It is more stable than buttercream in heat and humidity. I can't say enough good things about it. InstantWhip's website is www.instantwhip.com. If you go there, you can enter your zip code to see if it's available in your area. I'm not sure what part of Illinois you are in, but it looks like they have a distribution center in Chicago. Hope this helps! icon_smile.gif

Sam's Club uses Rich's on their whipped cakes. You can buy an 18lb bucket from the bakery for around 23 dollars + or - a few dollars.

Take your cooler with you and make sure they pull you one from their FREEZER...not their cooler.

the manager at mine said:

just give a weeks notice and we can order it in and anything else you want that's not in the store but something we carry.

so go back to the manager and have it ordered ... you may have to buy a case but it stores well.

Doug,
Sorry I took so long to reply. Unfortunately, having the item ordered is not an option this time since the cake is needed for tomorrow. I've also never used it before so I don't know if I'd want to order a whole case. Thanks so much for your help though!!

Thanks to everyone else that has helped. I really appreciate it!!

To be honest I've never tried. I have piped letters with it no problem and they came out nice but haven't tried anything else with it. I wasn't sure it would work so haven't. I keep meaning to though. From my experience with it I think a border would come out a lot better than flowers. I doubt roses would work.
