WOW
That will be one large handbag!!
The purse cakes are usually made from a loaf pan; I made one & stacked two loaf cakes one on top of the other & carved it into the shaped I wanted.( It was a pound cake.. can't really do this with a light fluffy cake. )
I suppose you could try it by stacking some 9X13 cakes... did the customer really want one huge purse?
If not, you may want to consider doing a purse and placing it on top of a sheet cake; you can make it look like the purse is on top of a dresser & have other items on the dresser... lipstick, bottle of perfume, makeup, money...
To make the purse brown, I would start with white fondant & add chocolate fondant till the right color of brown is achieved.
Typically on a brown purse, the logo is in gold; you can cut the letters, place them on the purse & then paint them with gold disolved in vodka.
For the handle, add a small amount of gum trag to your fondant, cut the shape of the handle and let it dry well before attaching to the cake, using Royal icing, (unless you want a long handle draping down... then you don't need to add the gum trag; just attach the handle & place it in the position you want ).
For the metal rivets/joints you can use gold dragees.
I am trying to keep this short, to give you just the starting point & some basics; do you have specific questions?
ciao

Is it possible to do 1 large purse and smaller ones? You could use a mini-loaf pan to do the smaller ones and a large loaf pan for the big purse. Otherwise, I'm sorry I have no idea how to do a purse that size for that many people!

I love the idea of having lots of mini purses...but it could get tidiest. So maybe a sheet cake with the purse on the top of it.
