Help! Need Ideas For 60Th Birthday Cake
Decorating By pumpkinroses Updated 29 Jul 2006 , 12:59pm by pumpkinroses

Hi everyone. I'm new to posting and decorating and wondered if anyone had an idea for a b-day cake for a coworker that's turning 60. We are decorating her office with cob webs, changing out her desk chair with a worn down rocking chair, and got some gag gifts such as hair bonnets, pill cases, women's ex-lax, etc.
Was trying to think of something to go along with this. Any ideas would be greatful.
Thanks

well, there are SO, SO, many over the hill cakes in the gallery.
and of course could do a take on MAXINE -- the crabby old lady on the greeting cards.

cake shaped like a cane?
------------
cake w/ drawing of walker?
------------
cake that looks like application for social security/pension?

drawing of old person with an "ear trumpet" (those old fashioned hearing aids) and something like:
"eh, whadda ya say -- Happy ol' BIDDY-day!

Welcome to this madness!
I am a newbie too even though my thing says regular member cause I post a lot LOL and yet I still know nothing in the cake decorating department
As long as you dont put exlax in the cake batter, I'm sure it's all good!
Along the lines of the gag- could you do 'one foot in the grave'
(literally I mean- as follows- as in the following sketch, make the woman out of MMF or fondant or whatever you pros use to make people lol

Thanks for the great ideas. I kinda wanted to stay away from the tombstone theme because she has had some medical problems lately that could have been life threatening. I have been brainstorming this morning and an idea I thought of was a sheet cake with a basket weave on top and sides or a texture to look like a blanket, make a rocking chair and a heating blanket out of MMF (put the cord on the bottom with buttercream). Try to make it all look worn and tattered. I also like your idea Doug about the walker and the saying. Maybe I can make one out of MMF also and put it in front of the rocking chair. Does that sound like a decent idea? This will be my first actual cake for something other than my kids birthdays. I'm a little nervous.

so maybe something youthful and vibrant that says life would be more apropos? lol

Wow, everyone here is so quick to help. That's great. I think I'll try the rocking chair w/blanket and hearing aid. She's got a great sense of humor, probably the best in the office.
Thanks for the help and I'll post a picture when I'm done (if it turns out )
