I used my luster dust to paint the top tier of my purple cake but if you have a look, it just came out a dark purple and there is no shine / sparkle to it. I was just wondering what I'm doing wrong. I'm mixing about 2 parts luster dust to 1 part or less vodka. Is this wrong? When I rolled the little balls I made on the 2nd tier they came out nice and shiny but the same didn't happen when I painted it on to the whole cake. Is there a specific way to apply luster dust over a larger area?

Maybe it is too dry? Not sure. I never measure how much I use. If you use too much liquid it's too thin and you don't get enough dust on the cake, but if you use too little liquid, it's almost like dry brushing which doesn't get as much of a shine. Try adding an extra coat, and make sure to get a good wet but not completely liquid consistency to your mix.
