Need Ideas For An 80's Themed Cake
Decorating By melissa043 Updated 3 Jun 2007 , 7:47pm by melissa043

I am going home to NY about a week and my sister is having an 80's themed birthday party for her friend in the Hamptons and im suppose to make the cake. But i can only think of something like a Rainbow Brite cake. Does anyone have any other ideas at all? PLEASE!!!! Thanks!

I did an 80's themed cake for a surprise 40th birthday party and ended up putting neon squares all over the cake since neon was popular in the 80's, it is in my gallary I think under Todd. Plan A was to do cut outs of 80's pop culture and put that on the cake, the logos so to speak of popular tv show, musical groups, movies, etc, made them all and the shelf they were on drying fell and all my pieces broke so the neon squares were plan B. You could also make a cake that looks like a rubiks cube. Just some suggestions.

I did a quick search for 1980's pop culture and came up with this website:
http://www.nostalgiacentral.com/80/80pop.htm
It has an A-Z list of all things 80's.
Good luck and let us know what you do!

My first thought was neon colors or Madonna. Not sure what type of music she is into but Run D MC comes to mind or that whole rap era.

After reading the link http://www.nostalgiacentral.com/80/80pop.htm, Pac-Man would be really cute.
You could do Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man with the Ghost and the fruit they eat.
If you are super talented you could do an Atari Cake.

thank you all sooo much for your help! Im starting to think of maybe doing a 2 tiered cake with all sorts of 80's things all on it made out of choc transfers and FBCT!! Good idea JaxDesserts, and thank you JulesM7 for that website! It gave some good ideas to make items. But if anyone has any other ideas of what kind of transfers i can make it would be greatly appreciated!!! And i cant belive i forgot about New Kids on the Block, MahalKita!! I still wear that concert t-shirt to bed! haha. Thanks again to everyone!!!
