Hi Cake Buddies-
I have a question for all you chicken wing eaters out there. My DH & the kids and I ate dinner last night at Damon's. I ordered a sampler appetizer platter for my meal. I never order chicken wings, so I don't know what to believe. As I was eating, I noticed a few hairs on one of my chicken wings. GROSS! I called the waitress over and she said this was normal. That they just can't get all the little hairs off??? Needless to say, it ruined my appetite. When she brought us our check, she aked if I wanted a to go box for my uneaten food. I politely said no-the hairy chicked grossed me out. She said she asked her manager about it too & that he said it's normal. Is this for real?

yes it's normal. Even if you buy boxed chicken wings you can still get those little feathers. And even found some on the fresh plain wings I bought at the grocery store. It happens often. But it's cooked at high temperatures so it's ok.

short of using tweezers to pull the off or that other more darastic method -- burning them off w/ a blow torch!! yep those little "pin" feathers as we called them where I grew up are part and parcel of the package.

personally, I'm more grossed out by all the fat in the skin and the chance of bag buggies from undercooking.

eeewwwww! We always get boneless wings because they aren't as messy or as greasy. I've NEVER had a hairy wing when I've eaten regular ones though! I have a weak stomache, and would probably puke!

OK, so I am from the home of the original Buffalo wing (Buffalo, NY of course). I can honestly say that I don't recall seeing hair on my food in all my years of eating wings. icon_eek.gif Maybe it's because it gets singed off in the oil? icon_confused.gif I don't know - I'm just really glad I have never had that experience.

If you ever get chicken wings with Chinese food, you may notice the 'hair' on them too. It is pretty gross but normal. I lost my appetite the first time I saw it too.

Since wings and beer go together so well, just make sure you drink several beers before the wings come. You won't even see the hairs, and if you do, you won't care.

You know Doug, if only we could pluck those little feathers and make the down comforter ourselves. We could eat and curl up in our warm comforter. LOL icon_lol.gif Life is grand!!

I just spoke with some co-workers and we all agree that we do not find hair on our chicken wings when they are bought from a restaurant. We do find them on frozen ones we buy at the grocers to make at home. You all just have to come to Buffalo, NY to see (and taste) the difference. icon_rolleyes.gif You can come visit me while you're here. icon_biggrin.gif
