I have seen some beautiful buttercream cakes that have roses piped directly on them (instead of making them on a flower nail). Can anyone tell me how this is done - I would love to try it!

Hi,
Although I am not the piping type since I only do FOndant/Gumpaste flowers, I have seen those ladies at the grocery pipe roses directly on the cakes. All they do is hold the bag w/ the piping tip really close to the cake, but the cake is on a turn table. The right hand doing the piping and the left hand turning the turn table or lazy susan. But the petals are piped just as if you would do on a nail. icon_smile.gif

I have done it on a cupcake because you can hold it in your hand and turn it....I tried on regular cake a few times and the roses comes out really tall and the leaves quite close together.

I have made roses on top of peanutbutter cups doing it just as kiddiekakes said. I just held the cup in my hand.(I put it in the gallery just for fun) I am sure that is easier then directly on the cake but with practice I think anything can be done
