I am now an official hater of Sunbeam Mixers. About 3 months ago I purchased a Sunbeam Mixer, Heritage Series, because the KA's were just too expensive for me at the time. Well after about 2 uses the motor burned out. I was only making BC icing. I like to have never found my receipt in order to be able to exchange it at Wal-Mart. I thought I had just got a lemon and everything would be o.k. with the new one. WRONG!! The beaters won't even stay in tapedshut.gificon_mad.gif One of them comes out and it makes a horrible sound that makes my 4 year old think the house is coming down. My DH, bless his heart, wanted to buy me a KA for Mother's Day and I said "No, dear. I have a brand new Sunbeam. If I don't use it then that would be like wasting $106.00." I wish now I had let him buy it for me and thrown that stupid Sunbeam in the trash. I am going to write to them and tell then what lousy luck I have had with their product. I am going to buy a KA just as soon as I can catch them on sale! Sorry about the long rant but $106.00 is a lot of money and I feel like i've wasted mine. Has anybody else had this type of luck with Sunbeam products?

I have the same Sumbeam Mixer. I have made double batches of Buttercream & Royal Icing with no problem. I have had no trouble out of my mixer. I do want a KA if that matters. I hate how the bowl & the beaters do not mix well. Other than that I have no complaints, yet, (knock on wood)

I am so sorry! I just HATE wasting hard earned money! I have only had the sunbeam hand mixers, which worked forever! My son bought me the KA Class for Xmas, he's so sweet! I believe they are only about $170 at Wal-Mart.

I'm sorry to hear about your mixer.

Yes! $106 is still alot of money.

I don't own a KA yet because I also dont have the $$ for it but I refuse to get anything other than a KA. I have a cheap $15 hand mixer and I have to say , it's had smoke come out a couple of times. icon_surprised.gif
but it's all I could afford at the time.

My husband told me he would get me one in August as we've had some unexpected bills come our way. I can't wait!!! icon_biggrin.gif

I have a sunbeam but i havent had any trouble yet, i've also had it for about 3 months. There was a post here last night about the red kitchen aid being on sale for $135 at dillards and i mentioned it to my hubby but he just gave me a look because he told me to get the kitchen aid in the 1st place but like you i didnt want to spend that much and i got a sunbeam so now when i mention kitchen aid to him he gives me the speech. $135 is a great price compared to the $270 it usually goes for so i'm seriously considering it and i told him i'll try to sell my sunbeam on ebay.

I would love to have a KA too, but for Christmas my mom gave me the same Sunbeam you have. I had her OLD sunbeam that she gave to me 6 years ago when I got my first apartment. It worked great but the bottom part that made the bowl turn had gave out and she couldn't get the parts for it. I got tired of spinning the bowl myself and asked for a new mixer.

Anyways I will admit that the new Sunbeam is definitely not as good as the one that's over 20 years old. I didn't notice a big difference until I went to use the old one for something (new one's beaters and bowl was dirty and I was being lazy lol). I never realized how much more power the old Sunbeam had. So now I look at my new one differently lol. But so far I haven't had any problems with it. But I'm also very careful about not working it too hard too!

I am sorry you are going through those problems with your mixer. Check Amazon as well! I purchased my KA from there for less than $100 and it qualified for free shipping! They usually have great deals on the Friday Sale. thumbs_up.gif

Thanks everyone for listening and responding. It helps so much when you are upset over something to just have someone else listen to you cry like a baby LOL But seriously, I am going to try Amazon and I am also going to try Dillards if I can get there soon. I live about 2 hours away from Dillards so Amazon is probably my best bet. Wish me luck in getting my hubby to buy me a KA since i've already turned one down. (Smacking myself on the forehead right now)

Wow, I guess I got lucky with my Sunbeam. My husband's grandma got us one for our wedding, almost 8 years ago. I had really wanted a KA (my mom's had hers over 20 years and it's still going strong), but I was just glad to have a mixer. I can tell the poor motor isn't as strong as it use to be, I just hope it holds out until I can afford a KA!

I have the same one...Mom bought it for me for Christmas. I use it to mix my cake mix but I don't use it for my icing. It takes too long to beat it and it leaves lumps of conf. sugar. I can whip up several batches of icing with my hand mixer quicker than I can mix one batch with my sunbeam.

I have had the same sunbeam mixer for almost 6 years and so far it has been great....although I do eventually want to get a KA. I checked your model on epinions and most of the reviewers mentioned the same problems you have had. I always check the reviews on appliances and such before I invest any money. Sorry you had such bad luck with your mixers but YAY you're getting a KA now! I am jealous!!!

I love my Sunbeam Heritage Collection. I have the 450 watt one. I had an old 375 watt one that I bought at Target on clearance for $20.00, 8 years ago. I loveed that one too. I mix double batches of royal icing and double batches of buttercream and never had a problem. I bought the new one because the old one broke. I accidently dropped a hand towel in it while it was running. Burned the motor up instantly. I bought the Sunbeam again because I love it and because I have tried the KA and I hated.

UPDATE.... Well I took that crappy mixer back to Wal-Mart and got my money back, well a gift card but thats better than that piece of junk sitting on my counter gathering dust. Thanks to another CC member who let me know that I could take it back and get a refund without my receipt or box. I just love this site, it is amazing! I am now off to purchase my very first KA. I am so happy icon_biggrin.gif My DH thinks I am so warped for getting so excited about a mixer. Silly men!
