I want to melt green ones, spread out and get tall tower-like shapes to use for the emerald city on my wizard of oz cake. Do I have to mix them with something? Do I do it on the stove or in the micro? Would it be easier to just make some kind of candy with sugar and water and color green? How would I do that? Any ideas are greatly appreciated!!

Wow, I gotta see this cake!

I wish I knew more about sugar, but it seems to me that it might just be easier to make your own sugar and color it.

Post a picture when you're done?

When I did a gingerbread house last Christmas, I mashed up the jolly rancher as small as I could get it and then poured it into the holes that I cut out for windows in the gingerbread panels and put it in the oven.

The trick to melting jolly ranchers is to put it on a silpat (silicone) and cookie sheet.

I finished the cake, it's in my photos. Thanks for the help. I ended up putting jolly ranchers in the oven on 250 for about 4-5 minutes.
