We are having a huge 'sisterfest' this weekend. Two of the girls are getting divorced so we are going to have a divorce party. The cake will be traveling about 2 hours, so it needs to hold up! I'd really like some funy decoration ideas too.

Funny you mention this, I joke to my sister about making her one when her divorce is final. How about a gumpaste woman holding a flag (freedom)? Riding off in a car "Just Divorced"? A scroll to look like a pre-nup that says just divorced?

hmmmm I don't know how to execute it, but maybe a smiling woman driving away in a nice car with money floating out of the window and a dejected man standing on the curb with his empty pockets hangin out. of course using that would depend on the circumstances of the divorces. Another idea would be to show the women doing things that they couldn't do while married. Again, not quite sure how to execute it.

You could do a sheet cake with a "traditional" bride and grrom cake topper. Separate the bride and grrom and put each of them on one half of a 1/4 sheet cake. Draw a black zig-zag line down the middle. On the bride's side of the cake put a little fondant house, a little fondant car, and little fondant money and coins. On the groom's side, put a little white flag in his hands and nothing more.

That would be too cute!

I like all the ideas...very funny!
Now I feel silly adding mine...but here goes...how about a beautiful cake with a bride and groom topper and a hatchet right through the middle of it?

Hmmm...funny stuff! How about a woman on top of the cake and a man buried in the cake?

LOL! My first thought was to make it look like a wedding cake. Have a B&G topper and have the groom like halfway in the cake.

How about the man under the car being driven by the woman?

how about using a doll pan to make a hill, she sitting on top looking happy - flowers everywhere and the man at the bottom in a puddle of mud trying to climb up the hill. You can have finger markers looking like he tries to climb but keeps slipping. the girl can have a bottle of chamagne and laughing as the man is at the bottom and she is on top.

How about a picture of Maxine captioned "In the words of MLK .... Free at last, free at last, thank God almighty, I'm free at last!'"

LOL icon_lol.gif

Maybe a cake to look like an island (think a round cake, with graham cracker sand, pretzel stick palm trees with fondant or buttercream leaves), with a woman laying back sipping a cocktail in a bikini (fondant or gumpaste) with a man off the island in the water(buttercream or piping gel) in a dingy maybe with no paddle (depending on how friendly or "unfriendly" the divorces are, maybe a couple of shark fins sticking out of the water! )

Maybe a ball and chain, but the chain is broken! Or a wedding cake but the bride is on top and the groom is headfirst in the bottom tier with just his feet sticking out, lol (like she pushed him, LOL)

A man in a big black pot, with some bubbling water, with this expression on his face: icon_eek.gif ("He's in hot water now!" lol)

Wow, are we women really THAT visious? lol....you could do a hubby sitting, lying, etc on a curb and having a bride with her dress hiked up with a high heeled shoe (showing she 'kicked him to the curb" theme. I dunno...grasping at straws here.

I did one for my friend when she got divorced. I did a simple wedding cake. We used the topper she used when she got married and I simply cut the head off the groom and had "blood" running down. icon_lol.gif

Why is it that when it comes to divorce, it's always the man that gets the shaft - like its ALL his fault?

The idea of a cake to celebrate a divorce makes me sad. icon_sad.gif

I understand where you're coming from, peajay66, but BOTH of my sisters are finalizing their divorces, and we will DEFINITELY be celebrating, because they are fleeing from HORRIBLE situations. Sometimes, there is good reason to celebrate!

What about some type of voodoo doll? I don't believe in voodoo, but it would be funny if you could somehow incorporate it. I LOVE the "wuzhiz" idea!!! Good luck and happy baking! icon_smile.gif

Well, the postee clearly states that they are having a party. Divorce of course is no fun. This coming from a child of divorce. But some people do need to get divorced and sometimes (not often) a party needs to be thrown. That's just my opinion...

P.S.
My parents get along better now then they did 25 years ago.

Divorces are usually long and arduous, I can't blame someone for wanting to mark the new beginning with some light-hearted fun. I don't see it as celebrating the break up of the marriage, but more the next step. Plus the poster was asking for ideas on this cake, not opinions on divorce itself.

This is to funny! I was with my DH before he got a divorce, we met about 6 months after his ex and he split. In his case, the marriage had been unhappy for awhile, they had seperated several times but he wouldent divorce her because she was the mother of his children. He caught her in bed with the 17yo he had hired to mow the yard for her while he drove a truck. The bad part was that My youngest stepdaughter was crying in the basinett that was in the same room! So he fineally had a reason and he was thankful, mainly because he thaught he would be able to get the kids because of the baby in the basinett, but unfortunatelly that wasaent neglect according to the judge. We still had a party though because he gets them alot more than your average visitation, and now we get them every time the mom wants a babysitter, which is about 3-4 times a week. Sorry, Im rambeling, but anyway, we had a cake that was black and had her pic in the middle of a circle with a bar accross it, like those no crossing sign.

Or how about a wedding cake with a groom on top with a icon_confused.gif Look and the bride stomping down stairs on the side of the cake with her dress hiked and a icon_mad.gif look....
