Here is a few pics of the cake I did last weekend along with the story behind the monster.

I made the gift box cake in my photo album for a friend in the office. I dropped the cake off at the office and as I was leaving one of the ladies said to the VP hey check this cake out. He looked in the cake box and asked where is the cake? So then she said you are looking at it. She told him that I made the cake and he was like no way. Then he got this light bulb look on his face and he turns to me and said hey do you want to make my son's 1st birthday cake? So I casually said sure. He said it's for 90 people. I just have to cancel the order I have and I want you to make Lightning McQueen from the new movie Cars. I was like make who from where? So I got online and could not find a good picture of The car. Thanks to Lisa I found a great site. Thanks Lisa!!!!! Yeah go Lisa!!!!!

Anyways, so he came to pick the cake up after me leaving him a sad sounding message and he was really worried that the cake did not turn out. He walked in to the dinning room and his jaw dropped his face light up and he was like ok I hope you take pics just in case the cake does not make it to the party in one piece. Just so I can show my wife what you did. At which point I read him the riot act. How to drive really slow. No sharp corners going really really fast etc.

So here is it:
It's a chocolate marble cake as requested. Dimensions are 22"x15"x4". The car is cake as well. HEAVY!!!!!

I don't think I like it. I liked it last week but this week. Im not liking it.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. It's true we are our own harshest critics.

Zamode: I may like it more if you get off that darn cookie strike.

Shelly, I sent you a PM with the recipe.

Thanks mmdd and Momof3boys. I think I had something else in mind that could be the issue. They loved it so that's all that matters.

OK, here is some constructive criticism. The car is aboslutely unbelievable. I saw the movie with my kids and you totally nailed it.
But, the rest is not as good. I guess having it stand on the silver board takes away from it, and the colors of the base, like the orange, are just not the right setting for it. Maybe that is what you don't like about it?

Thank you for the comments.

I Think what I dont like about the cake does in fact have to do with the cake board. In retrospect I should have cut the cake board so that it was curvier to fit the lines of the cake that was on it. That would have made a big difference.

As for the orange, have you seen posters for the movie where all the cars are on the road in what looks like a desert setting? The road way is not quite jet black but rather a dusty grey with cracks. Then the soil is a sandy looking orange color? Well it's suppose to be a portion of that roadway with the desert scenery (that was the staging area for the candle(s)).

But you are in fact correct about one thing, the cake board. Had I thought about it at the time I would have cut it like I mentioned about and trimmed it to give that show room floor look.

Thanks once again.
